Final Fantasy XI #069, Western Altepa Desert: Antica; To Red Mage Level 60

Previously, Heorot obtained the Yagudo Crest in Castle Oztroja in the Quadav Crest in the Qulun Dome. He then finished Maat's quest "Whence Blows the Wind" and raised his level limit to 65. Thankfully, the next level limit quest looks much less stressful! Now, Heorot will resume grinding.
Heorot resumes in his Mog House in Bastok. From his delivery box, he receives payment for clusters that have sold. Thank you to all purchasers! Unfortunately, there are a couple of Dark Clusters that did not sell. He will have to list them again.
Heorot heads out to Bastok Mines.
Bastok Mines (time 1:29):
Heorot goes to the auction house to re-list the Dark Clusters that did not sell. There has to be someone that wants them, right?
Then, Heorot uses the Survival Guide at I-9 to teleport to Eastern Altepa Desert, Kuzotz.
Eastern Altepa Desert (time 3:09):
Heorot arrives at the Outpost in the southwest of the desert. He takes the tunnel at F-9 to the Western Altepa Desert.
Western Altepa Desert (time 4:41):
Using the Field Manual at H-10, Heorot accepts the Page 5 individual training to defeat 4 Antican Secutors and 6 Antican Lanistae per training regime. Too bad it's not simply to defeat 10 members of the Antica family. Oh, well.
Heorot gets to work clearing out Antica with his team of Trust NPCs. He does most of the extermination in the Scorchvale, the southwestern part of the map.
I must say, I do not like these treasure coffers that only give the player four chances to guess the combination.
During his stay, Heorot douses a Fire Elemental.
Upon completion of the first training regime, Heorot reaches Level 60 as Red Mage. Sometimes, the game does not show the level-up animation, for whatever reason.
At the end, Heorot signs off near the entrance to the Oasis of Hubol. Next time, he will do some more training in the scorching, sandy desert.

Previously, Heorot continued grinding in Escha - Ru'Aun. He has earned a total of 185 Job Points as Red Mage. In this video, he will do some more Job Point grinding as Red Mage in Escha - Ru'Aun.
Heorot resumes in his Mog House in Bastok. He picks up a few Merit Point upgrades.
Then, he heads out to Bastok Mines.

Heorot arrives at Home Point #1 at G-5. Up the hill, he examines the Undulating Confluence at G-5 to enter Escha - Ru'Aun.

Heorot arrives at H-11. After summoning his Trust NPCs, he hunts some more Eschan Il'aern in this zone.
Heorot accrues 1 Job Point for an overall total of 186 Job Points earned. He has a current total of 6 Job Points.
When he has finished for now, he uses the Undulating Confluence at H-11 to return to Misareaux Coast, Tavnazian Archipelago.
Misareaux Coast (time 59:55):
Heorot arrives at G-5. Just down the hill to the west, he uses Home Point #1 at G-5 to teleport to Port Jeuno.
Port Jeuno (time 1:00:32):
Heorot trades his Crests to Shami at H-8 for storage.
Then, he teleports to Bastok Markets.
Bastok Markets (time 1:02:16):
Heorot trades his Copper A.M.A.N. Voucher to Isakoth at E-11. In Mjoll's Goods, he sells his loot to Olwyn at E-11.
Then, he teleports to Bastok Mines.

Previously, Heorot continued hunting Velociraptors and Sand Cockatrices on Cape Teriggan, Vollbow. He reached Level 74 as Red Mage. Now, he will work on Bastok Mission 6-1.
Heorot resumes at his Mog House in Bastok. He heads out to Bastok Mines.
Bastok Mines (time 0:39):
Heorot trades some crystals to Crying Wind, I.M., at H-10 to earn some rank points. Then, he talks to Rashid and undertakes Bastok Mission 6-1: "Return of the Talekeeper". The first objective is to talk to Medicine Eagle near the western end of Ore Street.
At H-6, Heorot talks to Medicine Eagle. A flashback cutscene introduces the supposed new Talekeeper, Povall. Hm, something seems fishy here. Next, Heorot must talk to Drake Fang in the Zeruhn Mines about a party being sent to investigate the Altepa Desert.
At D-7, Heorot enters the Zeruhn Mines.
Zeruhn Mines (time 8:04):
Heorot talks to Drake Fang at H-6 by the one-way raft exit from Palborough Mines. A cutscene takes place. When Mythril Musketeer Iron Eater arrives, Heorot is instrected to go to the Revelation Rock in the Altepa Desert and try to find an Altepa Moonpebble. If he finds one, he should take it to Tall Mountain in Bastok Mines.
Heorot uses the Survival Guide at I-7 to teleport to Western Altepa Desert, Kuzotz.
Western Altepa Desert (time 11:16):
In the Western Altepa Desert, Heorot fights a battle so that Kupipi will buff the party.
Heorot heads west to the area of Revelation Rock. Just to the southwest of Revelation Rock, Heorot finds a ??? spot between two large rocks at G-8. Examining this spot spawns a pair of NPCs, Eastern Sphinkx and Western Sphinx. They are a rough pair of notorious monsters, so come prepared or high-level. Supposedly, you only have to fight one.
After the battle, Heorot examines the ??? spot at G-8 again. He acquires the Altepa Moonpebble, a temporary key item.
Heorot uses the Survival Guide at K-7 to teleport to Bastok Mines.
Bastok Mines (time 27:07):
On the lower level of Ore Street, Heorot talks to Tall Mountain at J-7 near Home Point #3. A cutscene takes place. The scheme is up, Babbot! Bastok Mission 6-1 complete!
Afterwards, Heorot uses the Survival Guide at I-9 to teleport to Cape Teriggan.
Cape Teriggan (time 34:55):
On Cape Teriggan, Heorot continues the Page 4 individual training against Velociraptors and Sand Cockatrices.
Heorot reaches Level 75 as Red Mage. This is his current level limit.
When he is done, Heorot uses the Survival Guide at the Outpost at G-8 to teleport to Bastok Mines.

Previously, the party explored the Ronka Ruins and defeated the Archeoaevis. They were not able to save the Earth Crystal, but they did obtain the Earth Crystal jobs. Unfortunately, Exdeath was revived, and Galuf returned to his world to deal with him. Now, Bartz, Lenna, and Faris will meet Cid and Mid to find out how to reach Galuf's world. At the Catapult, they learned that Cid planned to return the Adamantite.
World Map:
The party resumes outside the Tycoon Meteorite. They enter the meteorite area.
Tycoon Meteorite (time 0:28):
Outside the meteorite, the party chats with the Black Chocobo.
The party enters the meteorite. This triggers a scene with Cid and Mid. Next, the party must catch up with the pair at another meteorite.
The party gains control outside the meteorite. They leave the area.
World Map (time 2:49):
The party flies northeast to the Walse Meteorite and enter the meteorite area.
Walse Meteorite (time 3:06):
The party approaches the meteorite and talks to Cid and Mid. This triggers a scene.
After the scene, it is boss time against six Purobolos, members of the Bomb family. They can Self-Destruct for major damage and cast Cura as a counter to Summon damage. Their most irritating ability is that they can cast Arise to resurrect fallen Purobolos when they die. The best approach is to use powerful AOEs, such as Ninja scrolls and the Blue Magic spell Aqua Breath.
At the end of the battle, Lenna reaches Summoner Level 4 and masters "!Summon Lv. 4".
Another scene with Cid and Mid takes place after the battle. It's off to the next meteorite.
When they regain control, the party leaves the meteorite area.
World Map (time 5:01):
The party boards the airship. They fly west to Tule and enter town.
Tule (time 5:17):
The party rests at the inn. Then, they leave town.
World Map (time 5:47):
The party flies a short distance west. They land at the Karnak Meteorite and enter the meteorite area.
Karnak Meteorite (time 5:58):
The party talks to Cid and Mid outside the meteorite for a scene. The pair pop out to report a problem.
The party enters the meteorite. In the interior room, they examine the disturbance on the warp panel.
This triggers a boss battle with Titan. Titan's physical attacks are fairly punishing, but he is pretty simple. However, when he dies, he uses Earth Shaker, which will damage all party members for over 400 points of damage. Make sure at least one party member is healthy enough to survive.
At the end of the battle, Titan drops a Hi-Potion.

Previously, the party began the Rain Village substory and carried out Quests 084 - 086. They helped Rebecca, the mayor's daughter and an amateur detective, investigate a few things. They will now wrap up the Rain Village substory.
Rain Village (time 0:28):
The party resumes in the church in Rain Village.
They enter the Mayor's House at G-5 and talk to Rebecca. Rebecca issues Quest 087, "The Voice of the End", the fourth Rain Village substory quest. The first objective is to talk to Balcha at the orphanage.
In the north of town, the party enters the Orphanage at E-3. In the eastern room, they talk to Balcha. They talk to him about each topic: "Fiya Orphanage" (フィーヤ孤児院), "Origin of the Name" (名前の由来), and "Origin of the Orphanage's Name" (孤児院の名前の由来). The last option triggers a scene with Rebecca. The next objective is to visit Priest Lilie at the Inn of Prayer in the Rainam Greenfields.
The party leaves the Orphanage. They Zoom to the Inn of Prayer in the Rainam Greenfields.
Rainam Greenfields (time 10:50):
The party takes the eastern door at F-3 to the Inn of Prayer's church. On the eastern side, they talk to Priest Lilie. A scene with Rebecca and Lilie takes place. The next objective is to go to the Juleria Underground Abandoned Mine and obtain the Priest's Keyring from an Undentured Servant.
The party goes outside and Zooms to the Juleria Underground Abandoned Mine in Upper Jule Island.
Upper Jule Island (time 14:24):
The party enters the Juleria Underground Abandoned Mine at A-2/B-2 in the northwest.
Juleria Underground Abandoned Mine (time 14:43):
Just inside the mine, the party begins hunting Undentured Servants (どれいへいし).
An enemy group drops the Magic Hammer (マジックトンカチ) recipe. However, Heorot has already learned it.
The party encounters a couple of Metal Medleys (time 17:57). They defeat one, but the other gets away.
Eventually, the party obtains the Priest's Keyring (神官のカギ束) key item from an Undentured Servant. The next objective is to deliver it to Rebecca in Rain Village.
The party continues on and gathers treasures in the mine. They have already opened the red chest at E-6.
In the north of E-6, a random blue chest contains 439 gold.
At D-4/D-5, a black chest contains an Ethereal Stone (げんませき).
In the north, a black chest at C-1 in the west contains Mini Medal #120, counting the 20 Heorot has exchanged so far. To the east, a black chest at C-1/D-1 contains a phial of Magic Water (まほうのせいすい).
The party Evacs out of the mine.
Upper Jule Island (time 25:01):
The party Zooms to Rain Village.
Rain Village (time 25:15):
The party enters the Mayor's House at G-5. They report to Rebecca and hand over the Priest's Keyring. A cutscene takes place. Quest 087 complete! The party earns 2 Gold Nuggets (ゴールドストーン).
The party talks to Rebecca again. She issues Quest 088: "Rebecca and Fiya", the fifth Rain Village substory quest. The first objective is to approach the Dolroy Falls in the Booner Rainforest from the southern side.
The party leaves the house and Zooms to the Jungle Camp in Booner Rainforest.
Booner Rainforest (time 32:44):
The party arrives at the Jungle Camp at F-7. They explore the area for treasures as they make their way towards the Dolroy Falls.
In a dead end at B-6, a black chest contains an Yggdrasil Leaf (せかいじゅの葉).
The party approaches the Dolroy Falls at D-4 from the south. This triggers a scene with Rebecca and the spirit of Fiya. The next destination is the Booner Stone Cave in the north of the zone.
On the middle dock, a barrel at G-5 contains a Tombola Ticket.
The party takes the middle ferry at G-5. It transports them to the northern dock at G-2. The toughest monsters in the area are here in the north.
At G-3, a black chest behind some crates south of the dock contains 3 tufts of Glimmergrass (かがやきそう).
At D-3, a black chest behind some crates north of Dolroy Falls contains a Bronze Skill Up Panel (スキルアップパネル・銅). A barrel on the other side of the crates contains a Fish Fillet (魚の切り身).
After the party prepares for battle, they enter the Booner Stone Cave (ブーナー石洞) at E-2.

Previously, Heorot began training in the Inner Horutoto Ruins in the Sarutabaruta region near Windurst. He reached Level 83 as Red Mage. Now, he will continue training there.
Heorot resumes at the Mog House in Windurst. He exits to Windurst Woods.
Windurst Woods (time 0:47):
Heorot teleports to Windurst Waters.
Windurst Waters (time 1:18):
In the southern part of Windurst Waters, he visits the Federal Magic Reserve at G-8. From Hilkomu-Makimu, he picks up a Scroll of Shock Spikes. He uses it to learn the Black Magic spell Shock Spikes.
From Shohrun-Tuhrun, he picks up Scrolls of Dia II, Banish II, Enblizzard, Enfire, Enwater, and Shell II. He uses them to learn the White Magic spells Dia II, Banish II, Enblizzard, Enfire, Enwater, and Shell II.
Then, Heorot teleports to Port Windurst.
Port Windurst (time 4:28):
Heorot visits Kususu's Hoodoos, the magic shop on the boat at H-8. He has most of the spells already, aside from some elemental Black Magic debuffs.
Heorot uses the Survival Guide at B-5 to teleport to Inner Horutoto Ruins, Sarutabaruta.
Inner Horutoto Ruins (time 7:59):
At the Grounds Tome at I-7 on the first map, Heorot again takes on the Page 8 individual training to defeat 2 Goblin Lurchers and 4 Skinnymajinxes.
At G-8, Heorot opens the Cracked Wall and goes through to K-7 on the second map.
He targets the Goblin Lurchers and Skinnymajinxes in this area. Both are pretty rough enemies, and they tend to be clumped together with others of their kind. With the Goblins, linking and sight aggro are a major concern. With the skeletons, you have to worry about low HP aggro as well as sound aggro. Skinnymajinxes' status ailments are annoying, but Goblins' bombs are very dangerous.
Towards the end, Heorot gets in a bad place with a bunch of Goblins and Skeletons. It does not turn out well! It was my own fault for going after that last Goblin Lurcher. The irritating part is that Heorot is so close to the next level. Be that as it may, Heorot returns to his current home point in Bastok Mines.
Bastok Mines (time 1:19:34):
Heorot visits Neigepance at the Chocobo Stables to sell off his loot.
He also talks to Zopago and gets the Day 3 update for his chocobo egg. Still trying to hatch!
Heorot heads home to the Residential Area.
Mog House (time 1:22:51):
Heorot logs off at home. Next time, he will continue training. Hopefully without dying.

Previously, the party finished gathering materials for the Ironclad X gem. They finished hunting Begest Rhanas in the Low Maktha Wildwood for White Rhana Livers. Then, they gathered Full-Bodied Ardun Meat from Rampaging Arduns east of Mulus Depot in the Agnus Castle Barbican. When they were done, they crafted Ironclad X. Now, they will begin gathering materials for the Empowered Combo X gem. They will begin by hunting the Widdershins Radler in the Anu Shoals for Eluca Silk. Then, they will gather Mineral Darbus Bones from the Warriod Darbus on Daedal Isle. Finally, they will hunt Uzraif Ropls in the Farlaine Underpass for Ropl Rock Fragments.

The party resumes at the Vinisog Holm Camp in the Erythia Sea, Cadensia Region. For the Empowered Combo X gem, they already have 30 Kananus Razor Horns of the correct rarity, available from Eruno Kananuses in the last stretch of Origin. They also have 27 Mineral Darbus Bones, 1 Eluca Silk, 22 Ropl Rock Fragments, and 20 Lightweight Velites Bases.
The party skip travels to the Widdershins Radler grave on the western island in the Anu Shoals in the east of the Erythia Sea. They hunt the Widdershins Radler for Eluca Silk. They start with 1 Eluca Silk.
Before the first battle, Sena changes her class to Soulhacker temporarily. Upon defeating the Widdershins Radler, the Soulhacker learns the skill Awakilling. Sena changes her class back to Stalker afterwards.
After some hunting, the party finishes gathering 30 Eluca Silks of the correct rarity.
The party skip travels to the Ragemaw Tempeldo grave on Daedal Isle. They go to the southern side of the central lagoon and hunt Warriod Darbuses for Mineral Darbus Bones. The Rabejan Darbus that comes out during thunderstorms is also a valid target.
During the hunt, the party skip travels to the Vinisog Holm Camp. They cook another serving of Highly-Piley Ocean's Bounty. Then, they skip travel back to the Ragemaw Tempeldo grave on Daedal Isle and resume hunting Warriod Darbuses for Mineral Darbus Bones.
After a little more hunting, the party finishes gathering 30 Mineral Darbus Bones of the correct rarity.
Next, the party skip travels to the Galloping Ghuldan grave in the Farlaine Underpass in the northeast of the Erythia Sea. In the tunnel northwest of the Galloping Ghuldan grave, they hunt Uzraif Ropls for Ropl Rock Fragments. They start with 22 Ropl Rock Fragments. The Ropls that are hiding in the ground are aggressive regardless of the party's level.
During the hunt, Eunie masters the Strategos class. She changes her class to Signifer.
After some hunting, the party finishes gathering 30 Ropl Rock Fragments of the correct rarity.
They skip travel to the Anu Shoals Camp, where they rest and save. Next time, they will gather Lightweight Velites Bases from Velites in Keves Castle and then craft the Empowered Combo X gem. They may also begin gathering materials for the Disperse Bloodlust X gem.

Previously, the party continued leveling in the Crystal Tower. They reached Level 85. Now, they will keep at it.
Crystal Tower (time 0:42):
After resuming, the party enters the Crystal Tower to continue the hunt. They start at Level 85. By the end of the video, they reach Level 87.
Next time, the party will continue their leveling spree.

Previously, the party went through the Path of Promise east of Aliahan and took the teleportal to Romaria on the northwestern continent. They explored Romaria and learned that a brigand named Robbin' 'Ood has stolen the king's crown. Their next quest is to retrieve the crown. The party also did some grinding around Romaria and got new gear, notably an Iron Lance for Davilas the Hero.
Romaria:
The party resumes in Romaria Castle. They leave the castle and exit town.
Overworld (time 0:58):
The party heads north from Romaria and enters hilly country.
Along the way, Serena the Priest reaches Level 9.
Davilas the Hero reaches Level 8 and learns the spell Zoom. He can now teleport the party to towns, villages, and castles that they have already visited.
Eventually, the party reaches the mountain village of Khoryv.
Khoryv (time 4:56):
As in other places, Khoryv's NPCs have useful information.
From the church in the northwest, the party can exit east to enter the graveyard. In front of the eastern grave, they can examine the ground to find Mini Medal #009.
In the southwest, the armoury has a few good upgrades, including the Steel Broadsword and the Chain Whip. I do not think that the Steel Broadsword's equivalent was there in earlier releases. There is also nifty Iron Armour, in addition to Scale Shields. The item shop also sells Leather Dresses for female characters.
With the Thief's Key, the party can enter the back room of the item shop. A chest of drawers contains a pair of Boxer Shorts. Sylv the Gadabout equips this item. They can also get behind the item shop counter and open the southern chest for an Oaken Club. They cannot get to the northern chest during the day, when the shopkeeper is there.
The pub is in the northeast of town. Around the northern side of the pub, the party can go down a hidden staircase to the living quarters. A barrel contains a Seed of Life. A chest of drawers contains a Fur Hood. Serena the Priest equips the Fur Hood.
The party leaves town.
Overworld (time 9:46):
The party begins grinding in the hills surrounding Khoryv.
Red the Thief reaches Level 10.
At night, they reenter Khoryv.
Khoryv (time 13:35):
At night, the party can find the spirit of a martial artist in the graveyard.
In the item shop, they can get behind the counter and open the northern chest for a Poison Needle. It has an attack power of 1, but a critical hit from it can instantly defeat a single enemy. Red the Thief holds onto it for now.

Previously, the party infiltrated the Yeti's Cave near the Narshe Mines. There, they defeated a nasty group of Tonberries and acquired Minerva Bustiers. At the end of the cave, they defeated the Yeti and recruited Umaro. Afterwards, they explored the Zone Seeker's Belly and recruited Gogo. The party now has all recruitable characters. Now, they will gather some Lores for Strago, catalogue the enemies near Jidoor, and begin gathering some Rages for Gau on the Veldt.
World of Ruin - Overworld:
The party resumes outside Thamasa in the southeast of the world. Celes unequips her Ribbon and Alarm Earring. The party board the Falcon and go to the deck.
Falcon (time 0:47):
Belowdecks, the party chats with Umaro and Gogo, but neither is communicative. Gogo the Mime joined at Level 31. Umaro the Yeti joined at Level 29.
The party forms a lineup of Relm, Sabin, Edgar, and Strago. Relm equips the Magical Brush, a Thunder Shield, a Mystery Veil, a Behemoth Suit, a Ribbon, and a Fake Mustache. The Fake Mustache changes her Sketch command to Control. Edgar equips a Peace Ring and an Amulet. Strago equips an Alarm Earring in place of his Amulet.
Relm equips Phoenix. Edgar equips Quetzalli.
The party takes the controls.
Overworld (time 2:24):
The party goes a short distance west and lands near the forest on Thamasa Island. In the forest, they encounter a Vasegiatta. Relm takes command of the Vasegiatta and makes it use Aero. At the end of the battle, Strago learns the lore Aero.
Next, the party flies west to Solitary Island. Relm equips the Gale Hairpin in place of the Fake Mustache.
The party grinds in Solitary Island's desert. The monster of interest is the Land Ray, but it has only 1 HP, and it is under the Sap status. Relm must use Sketch on it quickly to make it use Mighty Guard. When she finally succeeds, Strago learns the lore Mighty Guard. Mighty Guard casts Protect and Shell on all allies.
Relm reequips the Fake Mustache. The party flies northwest to Darill's Tomb. After landing, they enter the dungeon.
Darill's Tomb (time 7:07):
The party enters the tomb and goes down to floor B2. They encounter enemies until they encounter a Malboro.
Strago reaches Level 32. Sabin learns the spell Quake from Midgardsormr. A warning about Quake: it hits everything on the screen, allies as well as enemies. The party should use Earth-resistant gear or have Float established before they use it.
Relm equips Valigarmanda. Strago equips Phoenix.
When the party encounters a Malboro, Relm uses Control on it and makes it use Bad Breath. Strago learns the lore Bad Breath.
The party leaves the tomb.
Overworld (time 11:51):
The party flies south and lands outside Jidoor. The continent with Jidoor, Zozo, and Maranda is home to the following enemy types: Crawler, Sprinter, Lycaon, Greater Mantis, Leap Frog, Basilisk, Slagworm, and Cactuar.
Relm equips the Gale Hairpin. Edgar equips Bismarck.
The party goes to the forest north of Jidoor to encounter a Leap Frog. One of the Leap Frogs uses Rippler. Strago learns the lore Rippler.
Edgar reaches Level 33. He reequips Quetzalli.
Afterwards, the party goes around the continent to encounter all the enemy types. Leap Frogs and Greater Mantises appear in the forest north of Jidoor. Slagworms and Cactuars appear in the desert near Maranda. Other enemies appear in the plains.
Relm reaches Level 29. Sabin equips Valigarmanda. Relm equips Midgardsormr.
Sabin reaches Level 36. Strago learns the spell Firaga from Phoenix.
Strago equips Valigarmanda. Sabin equips Phoenix.
Strago reaches Level 33. Relm equips Valigarmanda. Strago equips Midgardsormr. Edgar equips Bismarck.
Slagworms and Cactuars are notable for grinding. Slagworms leave 7,524 experience points, 10,000 gil, and 5 Magic AP. They are weak to ice. Cactuars leave 10 Magic AP and 10,000 gil. They have high evasion, but Edgar's Drill is guaranteed to hit them.
Edgar reaches Level 34. He reequips Quetzalli.
Relm reaches Level 30. Sabin equips Valigarmanda. Relm equips Phoenix.
Basilisks seem pretty rare. They tend to appear near the forest north of Jidoor.
In a battle with a Leap Frog and Basilisks, the party acquires a Tortoise Shield, a shield for Imps.
The party uses a Tent and saves near the Falcon. Afterwards, they board the airship and go to the deck.
