Winded Voyage 3 | Episode 58 | Naked And Not Afraid
Before I was sailing on my Winded Voyage, I would watch the show "Naked & Afraid". I loved it. And this episode reminded me of the show. Not That I would spend 20 days in the wild for an episode, two days in The Caldera de Taburiente was enough to see this spectacular National Park. This was the land of the Guanches, the original inhabitants for about 2000 years. It may have been Paradise for indigenous families who once lived there. For a couple of days camping and trekking here was paradise for me.

I've been living in Santa Cruz several weeks now. Most people just stay long enough to do some repairs, shop for provisions, have a quick visit of the city and island and head off across the ocean. You make many friends at the marina. You'll meet some of them as well as getting look at several tall ships that are actually ship schools.

I've settled for a while on La Palma island. Comfortably moored at Marina Tazacorte. Since I'm alone again, I get some work done on Galopin. I also play. I go to a alternative festival and visit Tazacorte. Then my new Latin friends and I go out to sea. The views are sweet. Gorgeous girls all aboard. I'd heard La Palma is the most Latino of the islands, and this episode does give some truth to what is said. I already love the latin style, and I'm still an ocean away.

The Man Who Loves Perkins is back. This time David guides us through a full tune-up of my Perkins 4108. He's incredibly thorough and demonstrates he is truly passionate about engines. It's also a demonstration of how to service a Perkins 4180 diesel engine. This episode of my Winded Voyage offers some educational benefit to viewers and certainly for me as well. It was my way of taking notes for future reference. But first you'll get a glimpse of life-on-board on a rainy French weekend in Port Leucate.

Here we are living on the hard in Dakar Senegal. Me and my boat Galopin. In this case the hard or boat yard is the beach. Which is just in front of CVD, Club de Voile Dakar, the yacht club. I'm hosted by Arona who is the technical manager and as well a gentle giant of great mechanical wisdom. It's a very special place painfully polluted yet beautifully sweet.

It looks like the restrictions due to the pandemic are going to be lifted soon. So where do we want to go. West Africa is where. Senegal, The Gambia and The Bijagos Islands in Guinea Bissau. But we'll have to wait. And I'm not the only one to wait. There are three beautiful large sailing vessels waiting. Each with their own story. And we'll have to celebrate one important event. Lily's birthday. It's a full out party as we're fixin' for a celebration Cabo Verde style.

This episode is far from distant shores and beautiful people. It’s about getting into the inside of things. Galopin is like a living being with a wired and tube network that gives him life. His inner workings were tired and needed refreshing. In comes my friend Daniel who seems to take a liking to Galopin. He puts his heart and soul into my vessel as if it were his. My assistance was sometimes feeble at best, but sometimes it’s best to let people who know what they’re doing just do it. I did my best to bring it to you in this episode. About two weeks of work condensed in fifteen minutes.

How have I stayed in Cabo Verde so long? By getting my visa renewed. But have I been here too long? Immigration police want to talk to me about that. On the way, I visit a museum with an amazing work of art. The multicolored building facade is actually a musical symphony. Each colored spot represent a musical note.
