As an adult with Asperger's I tell you We Do NOT "Disappear from society", we just disappear out of YOUR world. Autistic adults are rarely provided services by professionals. There is no specialized counseling for us, little to no employment coaching (though some stats say 85% of us are Unemployed or Underemployed), there are no programs, and not even professional diagnosis is available for most adults. The world seems to think autism is only for children, while there are millions of Aspies and others on the spectrum who desperately seek, and desperately need support, aid, programs, and care. (Asperger's was subsumed into the general Autism diagnostic umbrella, so officially referred to mostly as Autism Level 1. Many Level 1's prefer to retain our former diagnostic name Asperger's.)
So-called autism societies, or non profits do little to nothing to help adults who have had autism for 30, 40 or 50 years and moreI could go on and on. But don't you dare think we disappear. We are everywhere, you're just not looking.

Humans are WIRED to CONNECT:
"Different cultures have different beliefs about how important social connection and interdependence are to our lives. In the West, we like to think of ourselves as relatively immune to sway of those around us while we each pursue our personal destiny. But I think this is a story we like to tell ourselves rather than what really happens."
