It's been nearly 15 years since I left my home Canada, in order to teach English abroad. Over the decade and a half I have taught in 4 different countries, and I have worked with students from all walks of life.
Yet the start of the journey is really simple, so simple in fact that I manage to talk about the basics of it in this 6 minutes long video. Take a look and find out how I came to be a teacher of English in South Korea, and perhaps you can find some inspiration or advice on your next step.

While South Korean Barbeque is superb, the South Korean beaches suffer. Neglected by those deprived of common sense that would direct their garbage 10 meters north, away from the beach and towards the nearest garbage can.
On this particular occasion, we broke off our plans of going to Masan, which is roughly a two hour drive from our home, and opted out for a beef barbeque restaurant located along the coast between Ulsan and Busan. The place is known for its picturesque location by the sea and its rugged interior gives it the feel of being in a barbeque friendly place outdoors. As I mention in the video, it is a little bit on the pricey side, but that is what's expected when you want to eat beef in Korea.

Why don't Hagwon teachers get paid more for their work? This and more in tonights episode of The Korea Podcast.
As to myself.
I am an Expat with close to a decade and a half of ESL experience. I operate a private language school franchise in the city of Ulsan, South Korea and know a thing or two about starting and operating an ESL business in South Korea. In this podcast I share some of my ideas and knowledge with a wider audience and also hope to learn new things along the way. I hope to provide our viewers with insights on how to start a Hagwon in South Korea, discuss some pitfalls and success stories, and bring an overall awareness to the beginning and running of innovative companies.
Teaching English in Korea comes with a lot of challenges for both the teachers and owners. In discussions with our guests I try to cover as many topics related to Hagwon Startups and teaching English in Korea as well as globally as our combined experience of this field allows.
Over the past 65 episodes, I have had the pleasure of sitting down with some pretty interesting individuals and I hope to continue this for the foreseable future.

First Sinbulsan Climb of 2023 was the first climb of this year and it was a tough one seeing how I had not climbed in close to two years.
Fantastic climb though. Wet weather made it a unique experience. I've climbed in hot and cold weather, but this wetness was a first.

I interview Malli and Liam, two elementary students living in South Korea about their Life as a multicultural elementary student in Korea during Coronavirus.
We also talk about some challanges they face on a daily basis living here in Korea as multicultural children. It isn't always easy being a kid and it certainly isn't easy standing out of the crowd in a country that still seems relatively uneducated when it comes to multiculturalism. Lets hope that things will change over the years and some of the ptoblems that multicultural children have to deal with on a day to day basis, will dissapear.

Playground on the hill is a small playground, on a hill, near our house. It's a short walk away from our house, and technically we should be spending a lot more time there as this would give my kids some great exercise and a way to get out of the house. Yet they can be lazy about climbing even this tiny little strip of of inclined land.

In the month of September, we were lucky enough to get a few days of which we took as an opportunity to visit Thailand.
Our last trip was to Malaysia and that is the first traveling video we as a family had the opportunity to film. Although we had been to Thailand many times, we have never had an opportunity to record any of these trips for youtube. So I was really excited about this trip.
This is the first video of our little adventure, departure from Korea and arrival in Thailand. More episodes are to follow so make sure to stay tuned.

Reacting to 'Reacting to "Prejudice Foreigners Have Againnst Korean Women"'
I am not sure why videos by Rachel Kim started popping up in my recommended section, I can only assume that the youtube algo is hard at work, but I often get recommendations for really old videos, like this one from 2017 or 2018.
None the less, I thought that the topics covered were still very relevant and so decided to make a response, to the response. Is that too much? Perhaps, but then again perhaps not.

A Quick Healthy Korean Home Cooked Meal, is one of the easiest meals to make. All it takes is a bit of time, literally less than 10 minutes, and f table full of vegetables. Korean cuisine is usually filled with a lot of side dishes made up of vegetables, pickled and fresh, and that's essentially all you need to make a nice quick Korean home cooked meal. No fancy grills, although those add to the flavour, but do take up a lot more of your time during preparation and could be cumbersome for every day usage.
Cooking a meal at home can be daunting at times, as it requires time and clearly some skills. More so for a Korean meal as things should be prepared well ahead in advance. But if you are looking for something quick, then making a meal does not really require the skills of a chef.
