A graduate of Tulane University with a B.S. and M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering, Robert brings a unique mindset to the medical device industry. Robert began his career at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as a Clinical Engineer utilizing advanced technology for early
detection of cervical cancer. With a passion for early cancer diagnostics, Robert then joined the Research and Development team at a private startup, developing cancer-screening products utilizing fluorescence technology licensed from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Shortly thereafter, Robert co-founded Forward Science LLC, a medical device company established with the goal of advancing oral healthcare through early discovery (OralID), diagnostics (CytID, PathID, hpvID, phID), and treatment options (SalivaMAX). Robert is now the CEO of Forward Science and speaks nationally on the topic oral cancer and early discovery.

Although many dentists prescribe fluoride supplements, also known as tablets, drops, lozenges, rinses, and vitamins, these products are potentially harmful.

The IAOMT is concerned that the amount of fluoride taken in throughout a lifetime from all sources, including the water supply, exceeds the human tolerance for this toxic substance, and as a result, can potentially harm both children and adults. Furthermore, the IAOMT is particularly alarmed that infants can be overdosed when fed with fluoridated tap-water-formula.
While some evidence suggests that topical applications of fluoride (such as brushing with a fluoride-containing toothpaste) might lower the incidence of tooth decay, evidence also suggests that swallowed toothpaste can contribute to childhood overdose. Additionally, the IAOMT has recognized that there is strong evidence to support potential harm from systemic exposure to fluoride. In fact, based on an ongoing examination of the toxicological data on fluoride, the IAOMT has made several preliminary determinations over the last 18 years: Each time, the IAOMT has concluded that fluoride added to the public water supply and fluoride prescribed as controlled-dose supplements deliver no discernible health benefit, but on the contrary, these uses of fluoride can actually cause a higher incidence of adverse health effects.

Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry in 1982. Dr. Palmer has been a
member since 2001. He received his Mastership in 2019.
Dr. William Virtue is a practicing dentist in Yadkinville, NC. He graduated from the Indiana University Dental School in Indianapolis. In 2010, he became board certified as a Naturopathic Physician from the American College of Integrative Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Virtue was President of the IAOMT in 2012, received his Fellowship, and is the current Secretary on the Executive Council.
