I managed to fit in some more Rimworld, the Kickstarter was hugely successful making more than 10 times its goal. The developers are no doubt working hard to add content and update the graphics and audio, but some backers have access to this beta release. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPDVtIOPUm4
THIS GUIDE IS FOR AN OLD VERSION OF KSP.
"CAREER MODE" in this release is now "SCIENCE MODE" in the current release.
Building a vehicle able to land on Minmus. I strongly recommend Minmus as the first target for a landing because it can be done with a much smaller vehicle than is needed for a Mun landing. Next part will actually cover the landing.

Elon Musk presented the latest updates on SpaceX's long term plans for their 'BFR' at the IAC in Adelaide. I now have an inbox of messages asking for my take on it all so - let's talk about the plans that he presented.
The main points are the BFR (Big Rocket) is now a lot smaller than the original design, it still uses 2 stages and refuels in orbit enabling it to go to Mars, but now it'll also be setup as a satellite launch vehicle, cargo ship able to visit ISS and the surface of the moon.
But most surprisingly, and perhaps least realisticly, he pitched a new passenger design intended to carry people halfway around the Earth at hypersonic speeds.

"CAREER MODE" in this release is now "SCIENCE MODE" in the current release.
If you've been following along with the previous episodes you should be quite capable of landing on Minmus and harvesting science, this is worth doing a few times to practice since there are many different biomes on Minmus to grab science from.
So with an eye to moving forward I give a little intro on installing mods so I can use the Kerbal Engineer mod to explain about rocket building and some of the basic mathematics that can help with rocket design, of course you can trust Kerbal Engineer to do this for you in the future. Using this new found knowledge we go on to build a rocket capable of landing on the mun.

Edit: no giant flashes were observed so it looks like a narrow miss was the result.
Based on information from satellite tracker LeoLabs there's a significant chance that two old satellites might collide at a speed of 14.7km/sec over the US tonight (January 29th, 2020). The odds are still small, but the consequences are big so amateur astronomers are setting up to monitor this event.

Skye flying one of my ships around eve online, carrying 100million isk in cargo....
She's also flown missions in a passive drake setup - but this is the first 'risky' thing she's done.\

Now we have a comms network in orbit around the Mun we choose to attempt a landing there with an unmanned probe, there's lots of science to be found even with only 3 instruments. There are over a dozen 'Biomes' on the Mun, and you can get a pile of science by visiting each of them and performing the same science. With this mission we unlocked enough science to get access to rover technology.

The developers of Pulsar were kind enough to let me much around with an early Pre-Alpha build of Pulsar - a cooperative starship simulator that takes you and your crew to the farthest corners of the universe on a mission to find the mysterious Lost Colony. It features a procedural galaxy generator so every journey will be unique and contain new challenges for you and your crew. (So yeah, a little like Artemis with more walking)

In the last 24 hours we've seen a huge explosive volcanic eruption from the Tongan island of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai - the blast is so large it's easily visible from multiple satellites in geostationary orbit, tens of thousands of miles up. The blast sent a soundwave around the world which is still being measured and the resulting tsunami caused flooding around the pacific ocean.

Apparently I'm missing episode 33 - will look around.
Finally getting around to terraforming a planet, if only I could remember which one it was. Glad I'm not playing with a bigger galaxy.
