There's nothing new under the sun. But at least those old VHS tapes you filmed of cool music videos in the 80s are back. So enjoy the aesthetic.
You can get the song (minus the annoying VHS effects, if you can't handle it) on Bandcamp: https://ianfelpel.bandcamp.com/track/-
This is an original vaporwave song made with MicroKorg, Squier Jaguar, and some 80s drum samples through Ableton. I will not confirm whether or not the vocals are mine. Every clip except the one of me singing uses Beeple's VJ loops, filmed through the VHS Cam app for iPhone. The clip of me was edited using Glitche, and filmed through iPhone's VHS Cam as well.

What happens when you combine a MicroKorg, an iPhone, and Roland TR-909 drum machine sounds? You get a heavy acid techno jam and a very angry Apple customer who wants the headphone jack back on the new iPhone 8 and iPhone X. Otherwise, this guy won't buy one.
P.S. This is just a joke/roast of the new iPhones. In all seriousness, as much as I hate that Apple won't put back the headphone jacks, the announcements from Tuesday's Apple Event 2017 were incredibly awesome. The event plus a belated 909 day gave me the perfect excuse to record quickly this little-improvised jam.

It's been WAY TOO LONG...but I'm back, and I have a new album. The new album is called "From Glory to Glory," and it's from my Insomnious Noise alias. If you're into cinematic ambient music with a retro/synthwave edge, then you're going to enjoy this.

Here's the long-awaited tutorial for the lead synth in my cover of Boards of Canada's IDM classic, "Roygbiv." Though this iconic synth lead was created on a MicroKorg, similar principles should apply to any subtractive or virtual analog synth. It's not a perfect copy of the original lead. But it's a warm vintage sound you can use in your own songs! Follow along (as best as you can)!

Well, I spoiled it already. I was asked numerous times the last few months to show a particular pad patch from my MicroKorg. But as luck would have it, it turned out to be a factory preset. So I decided to show not one, but TWO patches for ambient pads. I also discuss why it's ok to use factory patches in music, and how I used them creatively. Enjoy!

Elemental is a 10-minute live performance created from sampling real sounds to create a variety of instruments. Four natural sounds representing the ancient elements of earth, fire, air, and water are the only materials used throughout the piece.
This piece was filmed and recorded live at Collective for the DIGAhertz event on May 4th, 2017. This video was ripped from a longer video showcasing the entire event, which you can access here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yseXPHj-IiM

Sorry for the wait on new videos. I've been in the process of getting new equipment that will help me film, edit, and upload faster. But in the meantime, I wanted to show you my new Korg Minilogue. I've waited 10 years to get an analog synth, and Korg has NOT disappointed me here.
Here is a quick and happy musical sequence, mutated through different waveforms and modulations on the Minilogue, and effected with delay and reverb in Ableton Live. Enjoy the ambient noodling.
