A French warship operating in the Red Sea has shot down two drones that were launched at it from the Yemen coast, the defence ministry said on Sunday (December 10).
It said the multipurpose frigate Languedoc had intercepted and destroyed a first drone at around 9:30 p.m. local French time on Saturday (December 9), and a second one around 11:30 p.m. at 110 km (68.35 miles) from the Yemen coast around Al Hudaydah.
Yemen's Houthi movement said on Saturday they would target all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their nationality, and warned all international shipping companies against dealing with Israeli ports.
The Iran-aligned Houthis have attacked and seized several Israeli-linked ships in the Red Sea and its Bab al-Mandab strait, a sea lane through which much of the world's oil is shipped.

Crannofonix is live from the Iraqi Parliament in Baghdad on Monday, August 1, where followers of Shia leader Muqtada al-Sadr are gathering to protest government formation efforts led by an alliance of Iran-backed groups. The protesters declared an open-ended sit-in and claimed they would not disperse until their demands are answered.
Nearly 10 months after October elections, Iraq is still without a new government despite intense negotiations between factions.

Crowds of farmers huddled together around small fires in Paris highways blocked by tractors in the early hours of Tuesday (January 30), on the second day of nationwide actions by agriculture workers.
Long lines of tractors have been blocking highways near the capital and around the country since Monday (January 29), as angry farmers sought to put pressure on the government to do more to help them face inflation, compete with cheap imports and make a living.
The protests follow similar action in other European countries, including Germany and Poland, ahead of European Parliament elections in June in which the far right, for whom farmers represent a growing constituency, is seen making gains.
“We have the rope around our necks. Whatever happens, we have the determination to go to the end. If the movement needs to last a month, then it will last a month,” farmer Jean-Baptiste Bongard said.
The complaints by farmers have so far prompted the government to drop plans to gradually reduce subsidies on agricultural diesel and promise to ease environmental regulations.
France also said it would push its EU peers to agree to ease regulations on fallow farmland and promised that more measures would be announced shortly.
With farmers angry over cheap imports, French President Emmanuel Macron has insisted to the European Commission that it was impossible to conclude trade deal negotiations with South America's Mercosur bloc and understands the EU has put an end to the talks, his office said on Monday.
The French government has said that new measures would be announced by Farming Minister Marc Fesneau on Tuesday amid the blockades.

STORY: Supporters of Ranil Wickremesinghe celebrated with song and dance after Sri Lankan lawmakers voted him in
as the new president on Wednesday (July 20), hoping his long experience in government would help pull the country out of a crippling economic and political crisis.
They also set off firecrackers when the election victory was announced.
"There is a very good chance that the queues will disappear in the near future. If Ranil Wickremesinghe had become the president before (the crisis), he would have done some good," 53-year-old Nishantha Silva, who is unemployed said. "I have confidence in him."
The win for Wickremesinghe, a six-time prime minister, came despite public anger with the ruling elite after months of severe shortages of fuel, food and medicines. Many of the hundreds of thousands on the streets who forced the ouster of previous president Gotabaya Rajapaksa last week had wanted Wickremesinghe gone too, labeling him an ally of the Rajapaksa family.
