The economy was in shambles, and shortages of food and consumer goods were becoming more and more widespread. On May 1, 2246, the colonists stumbled upon a new type of native plant, which they called Mharin Kharin in the local dialect. This plant contained several interesting properties that piqued the interest of the UNS government. A year later, the UNS government discovered that long-term exposure to the pollen naturally occurring in the colony's atmosphere had an unexpected side effect: it acted on the colonist's pheromone receptors, causing mild aphrodisiac effects and a barely perceptible "high" sensation. However, this revelation brought with it new problems. On June 11, 2248, administrative reports from the colony indicated that worker productivity had declined recently and had become stable at levels several percent lower than the UNS government average On April 1, 2249, the colonists of the agricultural planet New Africa made a shocking discovery. Since the initial settlement of New Africa, several anomalies in the moon's biosphere had been discovered.
