Colombia’s False Promise of Peace: The Ongoing War On FARC
On this day 5 years ago, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC–EP) signed a final peace agreement with the Colombian government, in hopes of putting an end to the decades-long brutal conflict.
But the peace never came.
redfish joined former FARC militants who dropped their arms in hopes of freedom and peace, but are now confronted with the crushing reality of narco gangs and state-backed paramilitaries filling in the gap left open by FARC.
Our documentary looks into the new challenges that ex-FARC militants are faced with since signing the deal: organized criminal militias that are invading the territories they once controlled, a surge in drug trafficking, in addition to the murder of at least 260 of their members, activists, politicians, and indigenous people.
Forced deportation, raging nationalism, and widespread racism. These are battles Syrian refugees navigate in Turkey, all while President Erdoğan uses them as pawns for his geopolitical strategy.
"Deporting Hope: The Syrian Refugee Struggle in Turkey" out on November 1st at 12.00 GMT.

Colombia has been rocked by eight consecutive days of protests and strikes against the US-backed government. What started as a march against a corporate-friendly tax policy has morphed into a nationwide movement decrying the right-wing Duque administration.
We spoke with human rights activist Juan Manuel Tobar.

While Europe opens its borders to Ukrainian refugees, it has made them deadly for African refugees to cross.
To keep out these refugees who are fleeing war and economic destabilization because of Europe’s exploitation of Africa, the EU is externalizing its borders, pushing them into Africa by financing border patrols and agencies such as FRONTEX, as well as repressive governments on the continent.
The result is more militarization, the criminalization of people who assist migrants and thousands of deaths, as migrants are forced towards ever-more dangerous routes through the desert.
redfish traveled to the Nigerien city of Agadez, a gateway to the Sahara and a historical hub on centuries-old migration routes. There we met the victims of these new militarized borders and found people who have been forced back home by EU-funded agencies to potentially life-threatening situations, deteriorating economic conditions, and been subjected to the horror of the EU’s cooperation with criminal states like Libya, all in the name of protecting “Fortress Europe”.

Hunger is still the biggest killer in Africa and it has a lot to do with colonialism.
redfish worked with filmmakers in Senegal, Nigeria, Kenya and Zimbabwe to tell local stories of food and hunger, but also the growing resistance to the continued influence of former colonial powers, their corporations and institutions.
Economic sanctions from the Global North, debt and loans from the IMF, aid dependency, and enforced capitalism have all played a central role in Africa’s manufactured food crisis.

The 8th round of negotiations to try and revive the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal are underway in Vienna.
Advisor to the Iranian nuclear negotiating team, Professor Mohammad Marandi, says that the negotiations are slow and the EU and US are dragging their feet. They have tried to reverse gains made in recent weeks.
Despite verifying Iran’s compliance, Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the deal in 2018 and slapped a maximum pressure sanctions campaign on the country, claiming he could use it to “get a better deal.”
This time, Iran is saying it is the EU and US must be verified, and Iran must be given assurances that the US won’t just withdraw on the “whim of Western leaders”.
Maximum pressure sanctions have bought the Iranian economy to its knees and continue under President Biden. Iran says the objective is to make ordinary people suffer so that they rise up and destabilise the country so that the Americans and Europeans can get their way. And it’s not just Iran. This is a strategy Western powers use in many other countries too.
