In the early years of KVM’s efforts to introduce Organic agriculture in Punjab most the farmers started practicing organic agriculture on a household consumption scale on a patch of their land. Today there is huge number of farmers who have started Organic farming at a commercial level and are reaping its benefits in multiple dimensions.
As the number of Organic farmers is going up and the land under organic farming is increasing, the marketing of organic produce demands a lot more attention than ever before in Punjab. To strengthen the organic farming movement and to encourage more and more farmers to join this movement and at the same time bringing more and more consumers in contact with Organic farmers, KVM has taken several steps such as organising Organic Food Festivals, Kudrati Kisaan Haatts and a novel concept of Bebe Di Rasoi which re-introduces the legacy of Punjabi food.
Journey towards Safe Food:
To build a dedicated consumer base for organic products, KVM has undertaken a large scale awareness and educational campaign mostly among the urban populace of Punjab. Through these campaigns KVM attracted a lot of people who resonated with the concept of safe food and were eager to be a change agent for altering the current food production system. KVM then created several teams consisting of such people who were then instrumental in creating a platform which bridged the gap between the Organic farmers and the consumers in different cities of Punjab. The volunteers and consumers themselves hosted and managed the platform for the organic farmers to sell their produce.
KKH is weekly or biweekly bazaar hosted by Conscious consumer volunteers opening for few hours at a designated venue. Here farmers will bring their produce and sell directly to consumer. Kudrati Kisaan Haat is a weekly market where Organic farmers associated with KVM come to sell their produce directly to the consumers without any middlemen. Kudrati Kisaan Haat is filled of festivity and has other educational and motivational elements like workshops, talks and Exhibitions to build and interaction with the consumers. KKH has several components which includes -Direct Sale counters of farmers, Knowledge Desk and Live Food Corner.
