Solo Hammock Camp Overnighter at the Red River Gorge
The Red River Gorge is one of my favorite places to backpack, hike, and camp. It has so many interesting places to see that I have yet to see them all despite how many times I have visited. On this trip I decided to go solo and to find Hanson's Point which is a spot a lot of my favorite You Tubers have been to but I had yet to see for myself. It is an overlook off an unofficial trail so I had to go to All Trails to find a map I could load onto my Inreach Explorer + to find it. Here is the link to the map I used: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/pinch-em-tight-to-hansons-point
I will also be uploading my GPX file somewhere in the future. Maybe on my Blog.
I had the best time doing an overnighter here, in the morning I did not feel great and decided to head back home rather than doing another night but that is okay I loved every minute of the trip. One of my most successful trips (no bears!!).

KiCA Reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to review this product. I had a particular use for this in mind so I agreed. While I do like the product, it did not fit my particular purpose of taking with me backpacking because of the weight, however, I can use this for many other things. If you are interested in picking one of these up you can find it here: https://amzn.to/3sPOmw0

For winter hiking, I needed a new pair of hiking boots that were waterproof. I chose to purchase these Merrell Ridgepass Waterproof Mid Hiking Boots at Gander Mountain because the price was right ($99) and I am a big fan of Merrell. You can find these boots also on amazon for about $10 cheaper just use this link : http://amzn.to/1Y1lcBS I really love the comfort these boots provide and they last a very long time.
The other pair I can recommend are the Merrell Moab Ventilators. You can also find them on Amazon at this link : http://amzn.to/1Y1lhFG
Keep in mind the ventilators are a little more expensive and they are NOT waterproof.
Finally if you are considering the ventilators, I would recommend going over to my friend Evans' Youtube Channel and watching his latest hike, he did not have a good experience with them but wasnt totally sure it was the fault of the shoe. You can be the judge but watch his video any way because it is awesome. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4DHk-qj7Co

This past weekend I was dying to give my truck camp setup another shot so I drove four hours from Indianapolis to Herod Illinois to the Garden of the Gods Wilderness. I stayed in the Pharoh campground and I was the only one there!! It was pretty awesome. The cost is only $10 a night and it is first come, first served. There are only 12 camping spots but each one of them has a decent view. There are vault toilets that are open during this time of the year. And there are a ton of trails in the area. I really enjoyed my set up and hope to get out again after some adjustments. Next time I visit the area, I plan to do some of the trails in Shawnee National Forest.

My daughter and I found two places that sell the small mini barns and wanted to explore to bring you all video of them in case you are thinking about purchasing or building a Tiny House. These barns could easily be converted to small homes with a little bit of work.
If I had the land, I would definitely choose this option because putting these in would be easy to do. (provided you could pass the housing codes). These are located just south and just north of Bedford Indiana along 50 east and 37 north.
Thanks for watching

This is footage of a ten mile hike that my daughter and I did in the Morgan Monroe state forest in Indiana. This forest is part of the Hoosier National Forest and has really good hiking trails. This was on the low gap trail. Apologies for the shakiness.

Sometimes, the adventure does not turn out the way you planned but if you are lucky enough, you get to have an awesome time anyway. That is what happened with this supposed to be a hot tenting excursion. I inadvertently left my stove at home. But I had a great backup plan and still managed to find my solitude in a nice snowy camp spot. I love overlanding and truck camping for this reason. You can bring your backups with you and still pull out nature awesomeness.

This past weekend, I got to attend a meetup with other Outdoor Youtubers. We kayaked and camped at Brookville Lake in Indiana which is the same location we all met up last year. In this video, you see some of the great times we had and some of awesome views of the lake and the woods.
This event was hosted by Theron Miller of ECI Homesteading and Outdoors. You can find his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/user/ChannelTheron
Also attending was Mrfullautoak47 and you can see his channel here:https://www.youtube.com/user/MrFullautoak47
And we also had Jason Fishaholic with us. His channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Fishaholic9980
Make sure you give them a sub and tell them That Hiking Guy sent you.
I hope you enjoy this fun camping adventure.

This was a day hike I did on the Oriole East Trail in the Hoosier National Forest. This trail is the sister trail to another that I did this year which was the Oriole West Trail. You can watch that video here: http://youtu.be/zEtyWofvMbA?list=UUsJvBW3d5gamJopfm1FeE0g
Here is part two: http://youtu.be/55URGoTLTFU?list=UUsJvBW3d5gamJopfm1FeE0g
The trail head for this trail is located near Oriole Lake which is south of Paoli Indiana. There are no restroom facilities or water available (other than what is shown in the video) so you have to pack in what you need. The trail is approximately 6.5 miles long and is a mixture of pines and hardwoods. The only bad thing about the trail that I should mention is the large amount of logging operations that was occurring and that takes away from some of the natural beauty. The trail is good for beginner to intermediate as the elevation gains are not that strenuous. The middle portion of the trail is the prettiest and is worth the long trek on the logging road. I would still recommend the west trail as the prettier of the two. If you would like information on these trails you can click here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/hoosier/recreation/horseriding-camping/recarea/?recid=41580&actid=104
I hope you enjoy this video. If you are not a subscriber I would love to have you join up. I would also ask you to like this video if you enjoyed it. Thanks so much

In this video, I talk about one of my new favorite pieces of camera gear. The Mefoto Backpacker Air Tripod. This little tripod weighs only about 2 lbs and fold down to about ten inches making it the perfect companion for most smartphones, GoPro's or mirrorless cameras on the market. I have used it on a few trips now and the shots that I am able to get is well worth the weight to me. Before I was taking almost a full sized Mefoto tripod and it barely fit in the side pocket of my backpack. This one fits nicely and gets the job done very well. It also allows you to get really low shots and even comes with a bluetooth remote for your smartphone and a smartphone holder.
You can find this tripod on Amazon here: http://amzn.to/2mMVrIY for $125.
