UC Berkeley's new Blue Oak Ranch Reserve, a 3,260-acre property seven miles east of San Jose in Santa Clara County, will ultimately help to preserve one of the state's diverse ecosystems while also saving the woodlands for the benefit of nearby city dwellers. This video includes interviews with Jeff Wilcox, the steward of Blue Oak Ranch Reserve, Mike Hamilton, Blue Oak Ranch Reserve manager, and Integrative biology professor Todd Dawson, who together tell about the new opportunities for research and community outreach at the reserve. A cooperative effort between the College of Engineering's Center for Entrepreneurship (CET) and the Haas School of Business
Dr. Sara Sawyer of the University of Texas, Austin, presented a talked titled, "Species Barriers: What keeps animal viruses from infecting humans?" at the 2013 CEND Symposium at UC Berkeley. Her presentation focused on the evolutionary origin of host-restricted viruses.
Our lecturer returns, finally, after avoiding it throughout his series, to the controversial painting titled "Riverbank," on which widely variant opinions are held by different authorities. He offers what he hopes is a convincing argument about why "Riverbank" cannot be old and must be a Zhang Daqian forgery. An insert near the end, added at the last moment, delivers what he believes to be decisive visual evidence to support his contention.
