EASY HANDMADE GLITTER ORNAMENTS! A REALLY RETRO HOLIDAY!

Today I am sharing a simple and beautiful craft idea for easy glitter ornaments! When you are done you will have some amazing looking gifts to give or decorate an entire tree in your home. These are quick to make with just a few supplies and you can make them as simple or intricate as you like. I have been making these with my girls for a long time. They are always well received and you can even personalize them for friends and family to mark a milestone or create a commemorative ornament.
These glitter ornaments really are simple to make. You will need some clear glass or plastic ornaments. Any shape or size that you choose is fine, but remember, the larger the ornament, the more glitter and adhesive it will take. These are usually available at the holidays in the craft store. I prefer the glass version as it seems to take the glitter much better but plastic works as well. I also prefer the flat rounds instead of the globe style, but this is simply a personal preference.
You will also need fine craft glitter. You don't want to use chunky glitter because it won't cover the inside of the ornament as nicely as the fine version. You will also need a bottle of non aerosol maximum hold hair spray. This is the adhesive we will use to adhere the glitter to the inside of the ornament. This is so simple you will want to keep making these because they are so much fun! A little glitter goes a long way and you can make a bunch with just a few supplies.
The last thing you will need is something to adorn the outside of the ornament with. In the past I have used custom cut vinyl to personalize the ornaments. We have done these in years past for the girls friends with their names or nick names on them. I am fortunate enough to have a Cricut, personal cutting machine that I am able to use for this task. Since I realize that not everyone will have a Cricut or other personal cutting machine, I have chosen to embellish these ornaments with pretty, enameled and puffy stickers. Stickers are abundant at the craft store and the holiday stickers are super cute and you can do a lot with them. So that is what we will use today.
Step one, remove the hanger collar at the top of the ornament by gently pulling it out. Next spray 8 to 10 pumps of hair spray inside the ornament. Then you will want to swish the hair spray all over the inside to get full coverage. Make sure to pour out any excess hair spray or the glitter will clump.

We recently paid a visit to our local fish market to get supplies for some upcoming videos we want to share with you. Yes, there will be crab and yes there will be shrimp. Before the crustaceans there must be seasoning. Good, hearty seafood seasoning is in order. As the norm, most would choose good, old fashioned, Old Bay to sprinkle on their boil pot or crabcakes, but this is filled with salt and I think we can do better using what we have on hand. So let's make some salt free seafood seasoning!
We are at the height of summer and in my neck of the woods, eastern North Carolina, that means the seafood is plentiful and extra delicious. Pulled fresh from the waters just minutes off the coast from where I live shrimp and crab and fresh striped bass, spot and other fish are abundant. Nothing beats fresh NC seafood and in the process we get to help the local commercial fisherman provide for their families!
This is by no means a highly researched blend. This is just a blend that makes sense to me. It did not go without research however, I did read and dig a little. The main components are ground bay leaf and ground celery seed, with lots of paprika, both sweet and smoked, making a supporting appearance. There is no onion or garlic in this blend as in many of my others, but there is ginger, mustard, parsley and a whole passel of warm spices that you would normally associate with a holiday fruit cake but play an important role here. Even though the warm spices are in very small amounts they are somewhat important to the overall flavor this seasoning blend presents.
I counted 18 different herbs and spices. This was daunting even for me! I had everything I used on hand and did not purchase anything additional. I understand that many of you may not have a few of these things and they may be too expensive for your budget. I say leave out what you don't have, unless it is the bay leaf, celery seed and paprika. I would not leave those out because they are the real basis for the structure of this seasoning. The cardamom, corriander and lemon juice powder are nice but not necessary. They warm spices are easy enough. If all you have are cinnamon and clove, then toss those in and leave out what you don't have.
After I made this and we had finished the video, I poured out some Old Bay and some of mine on to a parchment side by side. I could barely tell the difference. In taste, mine is more brilliant because of the added lemon juice powder, and a bit more spicy because of the addition of smoked paprika. Overall they were virtually the same. I was quite pleased with how this turned out.

Today we are sharing a recipe that is totally giftable and one that we hope you will consider for your holiday gift giving this year! This sweet hot mustard recipe rivals that of the original Hickory Farms sweet hot mustard but it is super simple to make and only has whole ingredients! This is so delicious and everyone on your list, especially fans of mustard in general are going to be blown away by how good it is! I personally could not believe how easy it went together and how awesome the end result was! Keep this one in a playlist so you don't forget about it come holiday time!
This starts with Coleman's mustard powder. Do not be tempted to substitute with a lesser brand. The Coleman's is the magic ingredient here and it may not come out as good in the end, should you choose to use a different brand. I am using from an obnoxiously large tin that I obtained from Amazon (link below) but you can easily source a 4 ounce tin from the local grocer and it will be the exact amount for this recipe.
This all gets going by blending a bit of water with the mustard powder and setting aside to bloom. While that is resting, you heat up a saucepan and add the remainder of the ingredients which include, cider vinegar, more water, honey, brown sugar, flour and some seasonings. This all gets whisked together and stirred constantly over medium heat until thick and bubbly. Just when you think this is not going to thicken it starts and it goes fast, nearly like making a custard. So don't walk away and keep a close eye for the thickening to occur.
Once the mixture has thickened, remove immediately from the heat and add in the mustard paste that should now be nicely bloomed. Whisk the mustard into the thickened mixture until well blended. Now your sweet hot mustard is done. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate until completely cooled. It will thicken a bit more once it is cooled and may require a bit more whisking one more time.
Now you can divide among several small jars, I used 4 ounce mason jars which look like half size jelly jars. These should be stored in the refrigerator until ready go use or gift. These will last up to three months under refrigeration. Great on roast beef, ham or turkey sandwiches or as a dip for soft pretzels, veggies, chips or even as an accompaniment to a meat and cheese tray or the ever popular charcuterie boards that are making the rounds today!

Let's use the sweet and sour dressing I shared in a previous video to dress this amazing summer classic from my grandmother! Here Salut Freuling or spring salad is really a delicious sweet and sour vegetable slaw. I am pretty sure I have butchered her name of this dish, but I have not ruined the final outcome. This slaw is crunchy, sweet, sour and has just a bit of a peppery bite in the back. The best part here is that this can be made well in advance and kept for a very long time in the fridge so you can just open, scoop and eat to your hearts content all summer long!
This salad or slaw really reminds me of a classic Amish style slaw with lots of flavor and lots of crunchy veggies. You can add things you love or take away things you don't. I have chosen to start with a couple bags of coleslaw mix here that have white and red cabbage along with shredded carrots, but you could just as easily use half a head of white cabbage sliced super thing and a wedge of red if you desire. I always love to use both for color, texture and flavor.
To the cabbage I have added a selection of vegetables that you can customize to suit your taste. Celey, sweet onion, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, carrots and radishes. All of the above have been sliced very thin. The celery has been diced. The peppers and onions have been sliced in long strips and the carrots and radishes were run through a rotary hand crank slicer to create thin disks. The goal here is thin. You could add other things you love like chives, green onions or spring onions. Add in some peeled and seeded cucumber either in dices or thin slices. jicama would be great in here cut into matchstick pieces or even some apples. The point is that you can add or take away what you want. This can easily be converted into an autumn style slaw by simply changing up the ingredients.
The veggies are all tossed together in the largest bowl you have on hand. If you don't have a giant 16 quart bowl like I do, you can use a big stock pot or a big roasting pan to get the job done. Even a big plastic tub will do the trick. Mix until well blended. Then pour over the entirety of the sweet and sour dressing that we made previously in another video. Using your hands mix this all up together to get everything well coated and get that party started.

Next place the slaw in an airtight container with a lid or a big jar that you can seal. Allow this to sit in the fridge for at least a couple hours, but over night is best before serving. Today I am sharing another installment in my kid friendly summer snack series! Today a simple yet delicious veggie dipping cup! These are super easy to pull together on the fly or make in advance and put in mason jars so when you kids yell MOM I"M HUNGRY, you can pull these out for them to enjoy! Veggies with ranch dressing or hummus or whatever dip they love! Salsa would even be nice if that is something they enjoy! These give your children at least three servings of vegetables toward their daily requirement and who doesn't need to incorporate more veggies in their daily intake?! This is a fun and delicious way to get your kids involved in what they eat.
I have used Persian cucumbers because they are my favorite and they are small and seedless as well as baby cut carrots, celery sticks, sweet baby bell peppers cut into quarters and a few grape tomatoes. I took a plastic party cup, these are 12 ounces and leftover from our graduation party and placed a couple tablespoons of ranch dressing in the bottom. Then I piled in the veggies artistically. Remember, we eat first with our eyes and this is especially true of children. These brightly colored veggie dipping cups will be fun for them to eat and help them get excited about eating their veggies.
Remember to always choose selections that your children will enjoy. I know it can be hard to get kids to eat vegetables, but if you are growing your own garden, this could be a great encouragement for them. When they see how the vegetables grow and when they get to help you tend and harvest your garden it is likely that they will be excited about eating what they helped you produce.
According to the U.S. Department of Disease Prevention and Health, children should have between 6 and 8 servings of fruits and veggies per day. The current "My Plate" recommendations call to make half your plate fruits and vegetables. Older children are the same. You can choose whatever vegetables you like! You can even do this with fruit and yogurt for an awesome alternative!

In my previous video you saw me make a sugar free and low carb zesty thousand island dressing. The reason is for these delicious ruben stacks! These are a deli favorite without the rye bread! These can be enjoyed on a low carb or keto diet without any guilt! So enjoy the Ruben and save the carbs for something you really want later on! These are super easy to throw together and with St. Patrick's day around the corner a great way to use leftover corned beef. In the event that you don't have any leftovers on hand, these are just as easy to make with corned beef from the deli. I have used a half pound to make two stacks. That is four ounces of corned beef per serving and just about the right amount according to nutrition guidelines. I have added some sauteed sauerkraut as well because you cannot have a Ruben without the kraut!
I prepared my kraut by caramelizing some onion in some butter then adding the kraut to the pan. This helps to both heat and dry out the sauerkraut a bit and it infuses it with the oniony flavor that I am looking for. Gives this a nice sweet and sour vibe from the sweet onion and the tangy sauerkraut. I piled this on top of my corned beef then added some slices of havarti cheese. You can add swiss or baby swiss for a more traditional approach, but I prefer either havarti or muenster on my Ruben for the buttery smooth flavor it lends to mellow out this very strong batch of flavors.
I piled all of these on a baking sheet and popped them in the oven at 350 for just about 5 minutes. You may want to keep an eye on yours so that you know when the time is just right for you. I only like my cheese to be melted but not browned. You make these to your preference.
When I pulled them out of the oven, I plated them with a spatula and then added a ramekin of my sugar free thousand island dressing to the side. You can pour this over your stack and enjoy or do like I did and dip each bite.
This stack is definitely a fork and knife affair. If you prefer eating a Ruben sandwich style without the extra carbs from the bread I suggest you place the filling between several layers of either Romaine or iceberg lettuce and enjoy. This will give you the experience of eating a sandwich without the extra bread. It's quite delicious that way and extra crunchy, but be sure to use a lettuce that has some heft and staying power to it otherwise you will still be eating it with utensils.

It's time to get thinking about our Easter menu. If you are in charge of entertaining for Easter the time is now to start thinking about what you are going to serve! This year Easter is set to happen on April 1, 2018. So let's not be fools and be unprepared! This recipe for Parmesan pesto crusted chicken breast is a real winner. It is simple, delicious and quick to make. You can make it ahead and stow in the fridge the day before making or you can even flash freeze these before cooking and thaw when ready. That way you can have these ready for anytime you need a quick, delicious meal to put on the table fast!
This is so simple and the flavor reward is so great, you might not believe how easy it is. This dish is fit for the finest company or for your family on a busy Wednesday evening. There are only a few ingredients that you probably already have on hand and you can make these in advance and in bulk if you choose as well. These will be a welcomed addition to any Easter or spring buffet or banquet or any entertaining opportunity.
I started with chicken breasts and sliced into two cutlets each. Then they were laid out on a baking sheet that was both lined with foil and brushed with olive oil. Each chicken breast was brushed with approximately one tablespoon of prepared pesto sauce and then topped with a crunchy topping made with mozzarella, Parmesan, panko bread crumb, olive oil and seasonings. That's it!
These bake for approximately 30 minutes or until done or when a meat thermometer reads 165 degrees. I like to allow these to rest for 10 minutes before serving to be sure they are just the right temperature and not too hot to enjoy.
I served these with roasted lemon asparagus and Farffale pasta dressed with roasted garlic marinara sauce. This was a delicious Sunday evening meal that my family loved a lot! We had two servings leftover for lunch the next day along with the sides. So this can stretch through the week and this chicken, is great cold sliced into a fresh salad!

After many requests, I am going to share with you an un-boxing of the Power Air Fryer XL and put it to the test. We received this a few weeks back and have had the chance to really put it through it's paces. We have put together a video demonstrating four items we cooked just for you to show you how this works and the pending result. We have plans to do more dedicated videos focusing on individual recipes in the future. So be sure to stay tuned to those. This air fryer has impressed us and we are so glad to have had the opportunity to test it and try it out for all of you who have been asking.
The Power Air Fryer XL is the larger model and holds 5.3 quarts. This can hold a small chicken or a pork roast. You can make your own air fried chicken nuggets, fish fillets, french fries or potato wedges and so much more. We decided to share with you how we made potato wedges, re heated some leftover barbecued chicken as well as cooking a frozen breaded chicken patty for a quick lunch and some frozen angus beef burgers to make a quick meal.
The word "fryer" is used because people are wanting to have a healthier option when it comes to cooking the foods that they love. I want you to think of this as more than just a way to make fried foods with less oil, I want you to think of this as a mini, super heated convection oven that fits on your countertop and is easy to clean up!
I must admit, Rick and I had never used an air fryer before and we did not know what to expect, neither of us had great hopes for the end result. I think both of us felt it was really more gimmick than anything. But we were wrong. Happily we can report that this thing has impressed the daylights out of us! We have done everything in here from chicken patties, burgers, and the potato wedges that we share in the video along with reheating leftovers quickly and not have them dried out. We have made frozen french fries and learned you can't do them all at one time and we have made frozen chimichangas too. All of the items came out great. There is a bit of a learning curve but in time you will get the hang of things.
I have plans for lots of other recipes in this little dynamo of a machine! I can't wait to share them with you! Is there something you would like to see me cook in there? Let me know in the comments section and i will put it on the list! This will do everything from breakfast to dessert with ease!
I think that this appliance is great for everyone!
