How to make a recording mic from an old telephone
Recording pros are always looking for different effects to get the exact sound they want, and a low-fi microphone is often used in the studio for recording.
Here is a ‘report’ of my conversion of an old rotary dial telephone into a low-fi recording microphone for a friend's studio.

Hope you enjoy it.

Sometimes these restorations just drive me crazy. The automatic tuning was not working on this Saba Meersburg, so I tackled the entire motor circuit to try to restore its function. The main cause of the problem was quite easy to resolve, but then another issue cropped up: it would not seek in one direction. So, and IF alignment was deemed a logical nest step, only to prove to be absolutely useless as regards the tuning. Drives me crazy, and yet I love it! Hope you do too. The results is far better than I expected, and this device, like it's original predecessor, will come into very regular use. I hope you enjoy the project, and I encourage you to build your own. With 6 videos leading up to this final result, I decided to do one long video describing the various stages of the project, to spare you the pain of having to see them all. The project started with a simple suggestion that I would consider designing a tube tester for the tubes that are most common in the German tube radios that I restore. That gained quite a body of support, and so I set off to try it. Here is the result after a few design changes, and with some options having clearly pleased some, while not all. This project is meant to be an ongoing prototype, so I am confident that it will be revisited in the future.
