This is a long video review of two prototypes received from Volla, one with default AOSP os (black one in video), the other with a porting of Sailfish OS (white one).
The Volla phone is the name of a project for a simple, privacy focused, (and European) smartphone.
Here is showed also the Volla experience, but the overall focus of video remains on the device, treated as if was already launched Sailfish OS device.
Hardware
The phone it's better than expectation, being a solid midrange 8-core smartphone with some nice "flagship feeling" in the hand: weight, display size and battery are at high levels.
EU phone
This is a Gigaset smartphone, assembled in Germany, and the Sailfish OS version ends up to be almost a full european smartphone. It's a working fully-EU phone, in early 2020!
Rating it
My overall feeling is that the Volla phone it's placed between an XA2 and an XA2 Plus, with an higher screen/body ratio. The rounded design is a novelty for Sailfish OS, and will need little tweak to fit better. See on
Next steps...
There will be later a second, main crowdfound campaign from Volla, maybe on a different platform, or self hosted.
Stay tuned on their social channels.

One more N9 commercial, with the 3 first colour: magenta, cyan and black.
Sorry but it's only low res sampled to 720p!

In this video I'm walking to the nearest local spring in the woods. It is a deciduous forest typical of the Alpine arc, with many chestnut trees perhaps due to selection in past centuries.
The water from the spring could be more suitable for the finicky Dionaee, the new project is precisely to "don't let die as usual" the Dionaee that I bought on impulse the week before the video.
Oh yes, because it is really easy to get everything wrong with these small carnivorous plants with toothed mouths: they are not tropical or humid climate plants, but they want pure water and a particular soil.
In researching information I discovered that Dionaees are Youtube superstars and there is a thriving community of growers - and youtubers - focused on these flycatchers.

In this video I go to a local mechanic and dyno center to have the CR-Z professionally installed and bench tested, before and after the RB1.
I wanted to test the effect of the RB1 only without modifying the ECU (in Italy it is basically illegal). On the intake side, the CR-Z already has a sporty stainless steel filter and this may have slightly offset the "stock" test ...
However the result was unexpected, at least compared to the popularity of the RB1 manifold with the CR-Z community. Watch the video to find out more.
Good vision!

San Michele is a small village in the Val San Martino with a particularity: it is perched on a mountain spur bordered by two little canyons.
At the top of the rock there is the Church of San Michele and an ancient oratory, while the mountain behind it is Mount Linzone.
Ideal location to fly the Mavic mini. Filming preceded the October Prime Ministerial Decree which blocked movements between municipalities.
I'll be back as soon as possible to take back the location!

I just received a Canon 24-105mm L serie IS USM that I bought on ebay at a decent price (around 350eur in mid 2020, ed) and having it the packaging in such nice condition,
I decided to to an unboxing on the go!
The Canon 24-105 mm is a nice workhorse zoom for the photographer. It's not loved by the purist because of its impure nature of wide range zoom, covering focal lenghts from 24mm to 105mm.
Also it has (solid) plastic materials on the outside, not metal. The lens anyway is dust and waterproof (IP68? not verified...).
I will test soon both on the EOS 5D mkII and in the tiny EOS 1000d, where the APS-C crop factor will vary a bit the scope of the lens.
Good watching!
Giovanni
