GREENDESERT OFFGRID: How we got hot water and we built a barn door!
We are getting so much done in our offgrid shipping containers. It really feels like home. The serenity is priceless. We are ready to use our huge soaking tub because we have hot water AND we built a barn door so the bathroom now has privacy!! We also re-planted the garden and put lights outside the container. Of course it's never without a few unexpected issues, but we always get through them. Of course we work hard but we play harder so watch until the end for some new dance moves.
In the meantime, check out our website, GreenDesert.org, for all sorts of self-sufficiency tips, including a whole page on natural remedies. We save all of our GMO-FREE seeds from our garden and what we don’t use or donate, we offer on our Etsy shop. So check that out too… https://www.etsy.com/shop/GreenDesertLifestyle
This is so cool... Do you know all of the places where you can get free seeds? Do you know how to harvest your own seeds? Do you know what to plant and which plants DON'T get along? Garden Gal showed us the best way to make sure your garden thrives... And you don't have to spend money!
We have to thank Community Tire Salsa Garden (Communitytiregarden.org)for donating this garden bed to GreenDesert.org and IntheGreenRoom.Green!
You can get a bed too... They do the hard work for you!

Episode 5
In this week’s GREENDESERT OFFGRID episode, we got the windows installed and they look amazing, but we found a few leaks after the first rain.
So we gave the windows lots of attention to make sure the water stayed out.
Shane used several tactics including stitch welding, he used products like closed cell spray foam on the inside of the containers, caulk all around the windows on the outside and even mastic tape, but we still found small leaks in both containers.
Shane had even more ideas to keep the water out but he didn’t have a chance to explore them because he was in a bad accident – totaled his truck and is now dealing with a lifetime of back pain. But he’s okay and is working on putting his life back together.
In the meantime we got help from Tom with Thomas Russell to reseal all of the windows… and no more leaks!
So Tom and his crew moved onto the next project --- framing the entire container.
So in our next episode on January 5th, we can move onto the insulation. We’ve done the research to see which will be the most beneficial… for our containers and the environment.
So we got excited for some real progress, that is until the city said we had to stop working and they made the process extremely difficult to get back to work.
So it looks like we’re heading to Texas…
