What is audio normalization? What does it actually do to your sound clip or file? In this episode we cover the two main ways to normalize your audio and why you should use loudness normalization rather than peak normalization to get consistently loud videos.

One of the big challenges with recording on location is that you cannot always control noise or reverberation on the set. And while you can use things like sound blankets to help in some cases, sometimes you just don’t have enough blankets or time. On one job last year, I worked on a location near a major interstate highway which was chosen for its appearance, not its lack of noise. In cases like this, ERA-D from Accusonus can help you clean up the noise and reverb in your recordings like no other plugin I’ve used before.

Saramonic’s SmartRig+ is a compact, light weight adapter which allows you to record professional grade XLR and 3.5mm microphones directly to your camera or smart phone. Pretty impressive little device for a very good price.
Could be a good option for run 'n gun shooting, musicians who want to record guitar and vocals, and those on a tight budget who want to add higher quality audio to their production.
Let’s have a listen!

On this channel we talk about ways to improve the look and sound of your video or film. I shoot mainly with DSLR cameras (Nikon D600 and Canon 60D) and separate audio (sync sound) to get the best production values on my relatively inexpensive gear. We'll explore ways to make your video project shine, in most cases without breaking the bank.

For interview or talking head video shots, I like to soften my Aputure Light Storm LED Panels (LS1s) to ensure that the light looks as flattering as possible. But one of the problems is that to do that, I’ve been setting up an additional light stand in front of the light and mounting a shoot-through scrim. This works beautifully in terms of softening the light but it is a bulky setup.
Kamerar just released a new series of softboxes made specifically for LED panel lights called their D-Fuse line. In this episode we take a quick look at the D-Fuse and compare its results with a shoot-through umbrella and plain old diffusion paper.
Full disclosure: Kamerar gave me this softbox free of charge. They did not pay me further to do this review and did not specify what I was able to say or not say.

If your lighting is pretty good but not perfect, there's a good chance you can fix that using a color grading app. In this case, we had a slight issue with uneven lighting in our white background video so we put Adobe SpeedGrade CC to the task and quickly show how to solve minor problems like these. The same can be done with the free Davinci Resolve Lite!
Gear Used in this episode:

Adobe Creative Cloud (includes all of the major Adobe apps including Premiere Pro and SpeedGrade):

Davinci Resolve Lite (We didn't use this in this episode, but you could use this to do the same thing and it is arguable more powerful than SpeedGrade):

In this week’s episode, we have fun experimenting with the new Amaran PT1c, 2c, and 4c pixel tube lights from @aputurelighting! These cool lights can play a role in any lighting design with their RGBWW color spectrum, pre-programmed system and pixel FX, and long-lasting inbuilt batteries. In this video we overview the PT series’ feature set and demonstrate how you might creatively incorporate them into your lighting kit. Let’s take a closer look!
