In this video I show you how I harvest our worm castings. When I am done getting all the good stuff out, I prepare the bedding for the worms. Let me apologize from the start for the sound but we filmed this when the wind was crazy and had to adjust the sound and this led to my muffled voice.It is very windy around our area most of the time so its quite hard to film outdoors when there is no wind, we are currently waiting for a microphone to arrive to fix this situation . Worm castings are very good for the garden and is sometimes referred to as garden gold for a good reason. I prepare the bins by putting a few different mediums of different textures so that the worms have a variety of things to sleep in and munch on. This time I filled it with cardboard , newspaper, egg cartons, straw and leaves .I also added some chicken poo and sand for grit, remember worms thrive in moist conditions so if it is too dry ,give it a spray of water but don't saturate it. I add the mesh on top of the bedding and place the food on top of that. I find this very useful especially if I get a maggot invasion as they stay on the top where the food is and it's easy to get rid of them ,it is also handy to see what the worms don't fancy because it all stays on top. I also put a damp cloth over everything after I put in the food because I find that it helps keep the environment inside the bin in a stable condition. Hope you found some of this useful ,I am by no means an expert and we are very new to this life but I found this set up works and keeps the worms happy. It took me a while to get it right and worms kept leaving the bin till I got their conditons right. Worms will not give you a chance and stick around till you get it right.
