THE ORIGIN STORY OF JESUS Part 24: The Death March
The Hebrews expected a quick trip to the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey after leaving Egypt. The problem was that they had no personal love for God. When they did not get their way, they were quick to ditch God and voice out their desire to return to Egypt.
As a result, Jesus sentenced the adults to die in the wilderness over a forty year period because of their unbelief and rebellion. The children grew up with the knowledge that their parents had been chastised by God. Lucifer kept rebellion smoldering in the hearts of the Israelites over the next four decades.
They encountered hostile nations, the king of Moab tried to hire a prophet named Balaam to curse them, and even Moses stumbled when he struck the rock, effectively denying him entry to the Promised Land. Even so, Moses was unique among men and he was summoned from Paradise along with the prophet Elijah some 1,500 years later to speak with Jesus and confirm His mission on earth.

Soul-Damage
The soul can incur trauma moments after conception and anytime throughout a person's life on earth. Whether you realize it or not, soul damage is a common denominator that pervades age, gender and life experiences. The physical body is merely a vehicle which the soul uses to live and work through on earth.
The soul is the real you and contains your personality, emotional feelings, talents, thinking capacity and memory. Pastor John shares wisdom from the book of Proverbs concerning the well-being of the soul in relation to the body and how the two are inextricably linked. A healthy soul will give life to the body, but if your soul has been traumatized, it will negatively affect your physical body!
The modern church is weak because it has not understood weighty spiritual matters. If you find that your life does match up with the abundant life promised by Jesus, you should look introspectively to see if your soul has been damaged. If your soul is content, then your body will benefit from the spiritual harmony. A joyful soul is like good medicine to the body, but a soul that is broken will only hurt the vehicle.

There is a recent trend by many pastors and messianic rabbis to integrate Jewish customs and holy days into Christianity and to usher believers in Christ back into Judaism. This is ironic because Jesus and the apostles deliberately moved away from the First Covenant and the church in Galatia was rebuked for going back to the old ways.
Some Christians want to blend Jewish traditions and holy days with their faith even though Jesus and the apostles never advocated such an action. In doing so, they unwittingly turn back from Christ and return to a dead religion. God instituted feast days like the Day of Atonement, the Feast of Tabernacles and the Passover to point the way to the Messiah.
What is the point of trying to keep First Covenant feast days when we live in the Second Covenant? The simple truth is that anyone who chooses to observe a First Covenant feast day is deliberately living in the past and ignoring the fact that the Messiah arrived 2,000 years ago. It grieves the Lord when Christians observe defunct holy days; choosing to live in the First Covenant is actually an abomination because it negates the work that Jesus did on the cross!

King David has been a beloved figure among Christians for centuries who enjoy reading from the Psalms even though he was a liar, cold-blooded murderer, and a womanizer. Most of his failures and family troubles stemmed from his seemingly insatiable libido. He not only added wife after wife to his harem and also packed it with concubines.
His sons were like wild stallions in this large dysfunctional family. Amnon lusted after his half-sister, raped Tamar and then was murdered by Absalom for his actions. David did not discipline his sons or comfort his daughter. Absalom later started an uprising and convinced the ten northern tribes to side with him.
The short-lived civil war cost Absalom his life. As David aged, he was curious to know the number of fighting men in Israel. This brought the wrath of God and 70,000 men died as a result of David’s transgression. Eventually David was confined to his bed and Adonijah saw this an opportunity to jump to the front of the line and declare himself king. Nathan the prophet intervened and Solomon was crowned the next king.
Just before he died, David asked Solomon to kill Joab and Shimei once he was gone. As the second king of Israel, David was a mixed bag of good and evil. The Godhead protected David’s kingship because he responded to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and never worshiped idols.

Pastor John makes a transition from Matthew chapter 24 to the Book of Revelation with a time period of some 60 years in between the two. In a continuation from last week, he points out the game plan of the Devil and that his fiercest attack is against the Bible.
When people read from what pastor John calls "bastard versions," God’s truth is polluted and the reader will not really know for sure what sound theological doctrine is. Getting into the sermon, Pastor John gives an outline about the Book of Revelation, how only Jesus can open the sealed book and who the four horsemen are.
He also points out that there will be some Christians killed during this period by the Antichrist forces but Christians will be exempt from the wrath of God because He will seal and protect them from the coming judgments like when He made a difference between the Israelites and the Egyptians and the plagues that came upon them. The same will hold true for believers in Christ during the tribulation period.

Moses came from the bloodline of Levi and was the fourth generation from Jacob. God arranged it so that the daughter of Pharaoh adopted a hated Hebrew baby boy.
The first forty years of Moses’ life were spent as a prince of Egypt, receiving the finest education. He was also trained as a soldier, educated in politics, instructed in law, and qualified to be a judge.
Unfortunately, Moses killed an Egyptian taskmaster, and as a result, he fled to Midian where he spent the next forty years as a shepherd under the tutelage of his father-in-law. Jethro taught Moses about God, the creation, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and he also learned about a Redeemer that would save humanity from their sins.
Moses slowly lost personal ambition over the course of time and must have thought that his life would end as a lowly shepherd. He didn’t realize that God had spent eighty years getting him ready to deliver the Israelites from their bondage and become the leader of a new nation.

Most people go to church to meet friends and be entertained rather than have an encounter with the Lord. Seeker friendly churches cater to the selfish desires of people; whereas, God is seeking those who will worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and this begins with obeying His commandments.
Praise and worship can be done through singing, prayer, tithing and reading the Bible but God never intended for His church to become a spiritual amusement park, rather it’s a place where His children can boldly come before the throne of grace. God is holy and the Bible specifies how He wants to be worshiped.
Any deviation from these instructions will drive away the Holy Spirit and cause a church to operate in the flesh with programs and entertainment. If God doesn’t show up in a church service it will be a dead meeting; therefore, let’s give God the worship that is worthy of Him!

The first task in the invasion of the Promised Land was getting the entire camp across the Jordan River when the water levels were at their highest after the spring rains. It required faith on the part of the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant to step into the water before they saw power of God.
The second task was circumcising all the men to test the faith of the Israelites in enemy territory. The third assignment involved circling Jericho silently for seven days before God flattened the legendary walls. All these tasks required faith and proved their obedience to the Lord.
The first blunder occurred when Achan took plunder from Jericho and the entire camp was cursed because of his greed. A little while later, Joshua and the rest of the camp were taken in by the deception of the men from Gibeon when they made a peace treaty with a faction of the Canaanites. The Israelites won the battles against Jericho and Ai, but they would ultimately lose the war because of Lucifer’s clever pitfalls.

The Godhead intended for Israel to be a light to the Gentile nations. Jesus communicated to the people through judges and prophets. This was to continue until the incarnation when Jesus would start the ministry of redemption for Adam's sin. The Hebrews did not like Samuel's sons and insisted on a king.
God warned it would not be an easy road and they were better off with judges. The people persisted in their desire to be like other nations. Jesus allowed the Hebrews to exercise their free will and Israel transitioned from a theocracy to a monarchy.
Saul was a good man with great potential and Jesus never intended to set him up for failure; rather, it was God's intention to prosper Saul and have him be successful. He was humble, shy, and meek and he received the gift of prophesy. But then Saul used his free will to rebel against the Lord once he started to prosper. The blame cannot be laid at God's feet; Saul's downfall was the result of poor decisions.

The worship of the golden calves was so deeply ingrained among the Israelites that the knowledge of God had vanished. The Godhead intervened by sending four prophets with the express purpose of guiding the northern kingdom back to the Lord.
The problem was that the next four kings followed Lucifer. The nation prospered under the reign of Jeroboam II as he took back land from Syria. Cities were enlarged, businesses flourished, and a wealthy upper class emerged. Drunkenness and immorality were the focus and Hosea told the people that judgment was coming. Zachariah became the next king, but he was assassinated after just six months by Shallum, who in turn was executed by Menahem a month later.
He went on to reign for 10 years, but things did not go well as Assyria set its sights on Israel after defeating Syria. Menahem negotiated an enormous bribe of silver to avoid war. The question remained, how much longer would the Godhead allow the northern kingdom to operate?
