It's also been reported the marketing budget for the film is in the vicinity of $100M itself, which seems about right for a film of this caliber considering the popularity of the intellectual property involved. But will the huge box office opening hold up over time as some early viewers have expressed disgust at the messaging in the film and changes to characters. One of the things that made Super Mario Bros such a massive hit was that it stayed tru to the characters and avoided and modern day messaging for audiences. Barbie may not be made in the same vein.
