1215 / it was expressly decreed to extirpate all "heresy" in canons 2 Condemnation of the doctrines of Joachim of Fiore and of Amalric of Bena, and 3 Procedure and penalties against heretics and their protectors. If those suspected of heresy should neglect to prove themselves innocent, they are excommunicated. If they continue in the excommunication for twelve months they are to be condemned as heretics. Princes are to be admonished to swear that they will banish all whom the church points out as heretics. This canon mandates that those pointed by the church as heretics shall be expelled by the secular authorities or they will be excommunicated if failing to do so.
Heresy
Act 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
αἵρεσις
hairesis
hah'ee-res-is
From G138; properly a choice, that is, (specifically) a party or (abstractly) disunion. (“heresy” is the Greek word itself.): - heresy [which is the Greek word itself], sect.
Total KJV occurrences: 9
The word "sect" is used in Acts.....
5/17 "sect of the Sadducees",
15/5 "sect of the Pharisees",
24/5 "sect of the Nazarenes",
26/5 "after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.",
28/22 "for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against."
And the word "Heresies" is used in
1Cor 11/19 "For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.",
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
2Pet 2/1 "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."
So we might say then, that any other group of people that do not believe the same as us, are a sect, or of a way that is Heresy. They don't believe the same as us on everything, they may be right, or we may be right, that's why we must prove all things by the Word of God.
They said, "Princes are to be admonished to swear that they will banish all whom the church points out as heretics."
Men verily Swear by the Greater
Heb 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,
Heb 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.
Heb 6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Heb 6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
Heb 6:17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
Heb 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
Heb 6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
