A couple of trustees at the Toronto District School Board have raked up the 'non-issue' of Indian caste discrimination (which was abolished in India decades ago). They allege that it is practiced in Canada - although no data has been provided - and are trying to create a new classification when there are already laws existing in Canada to fight various kinds of discrimination. The move is apparently seen by many people as an effort to denigrate India and create divisions within the Indo-Canadian community. Vijay Devineni, an Indo-Canadian activist, speaks with Bala Menon, Editor-in-Chief of the Voice Media Group about this unnecessary controversy. The issue has now been elevated to the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
