Welcome to the 1st episode of Behind The Mace a Steel Mace Nation presentation and produced by Hunter Media New Jersey.
So how did the Steel Mace Nation podcast and website come about? Why would a New Jersey firefighter set out on a mission to explore the world of mace movement? Behind The Mace goes deeper into what the inspiration and the motivation was and its a look into this amazing fitness movement that goes beyond.
As a firefighter I saw and felt the amazing benefits that the mace modality provided for me in my career. I recognized a multitude of dynamic movements that 1st responders, military and martial arts practitioners can benefit from. The biggest surprise is how many people who never exercised before have found the mace and are getting fitter everyday! I jumped in with both feet and set out to explore the mace movement!
Through the podcast which has over 100 episodes and counting we delve into this modality to discover its uses and benefits and uncover its mystery. The podcast has repeatedly proved that these movements are highly beneficial from anecdotal testimony from the guests. The guests come from various backgrounds such as physical therapy, personal training, coaching athletes and more.
Behind The Mace is taking us on a journey away from the podcast and the workout videos into a look at the rise of the Steel Mace Nation which is all of you!
The Steel Mace Nation is not a geographical location but rather a nation of people from everywhere who share in the love and inspiration of steel mace training.

This is a jam packed workout video with a lot of exercises. I go through everything quickly. It's recommended that you practice these slowly and deliberately.
I'm using an @Adex Adjustable Exercise Clubs & Maces
These clubs are the best to learn with because you can start light and add small amounts of weight to continually challenge yourself.
Start light and get the movement down to perfect form.
Add a little weight and repeat.
Do a lot of reps and sets.
Be careful because when you get tired your form will start to slip. That's your cue to end your workout session.
Before you do any exercises make sure you are cleared by your doctor.

Here is an example of some light steel mace work you can do to warm up your body for your Shoulder Day, Leg Day, Back or Chest Day workout.
My training for the day was Shoulders & Arms and called for Seated dumbbell shoulder press, Skullcrushers,Dumbbell curls, lateral raise, triceps cable push down with cable biceps curls and few other things.
This warm up does the following...
1) Activates your Central Nervous System and creates better proprioception.
2) Warms up your muscles, increase blood flow.
3) Activates all the stabilizers muscles
and switches on your core
4) Focuses your mind to the task at hand making your workout more intense
5) Allows for a personal assessment of your body... whats tight? Does anything feel off? Anything hurt?
