Rocking is an important movement for learning to stabilize your spine. It's also a building block to learn how to front roll and backward roll properly.
This movement can also highlight imbalances and weaknesses in your core. If you fall off to the side or you have flat spots then you know you have issues you need to address.
Learn how to rock properly and how to assess inefficiencies today!

The life changes are happening! I'm moving this week, but I'm moving to a smaller space. That means it's time to get rid of the unnecessary. I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to talk about minimalism.
First of, what's minimalism doing on a healthy lifestyle channel? I'm glad you asked! I think understanding the concepts of minimalism can help you better design your life.
I think it's important to not get confused by the name minimal. In my opinion, minimalism isn't about having very few possessions. It's about only having what adds value to your life.
Gimme your opinions in the comments below!!!

With all the time we spend sitting at desks with poor posture and so much time with our arms stretched out in front of us, our chest muscle have become quite shortened.
This causes our shoulders to roll forward and our upper backs to round over. I'm going to share a simple stretch to restore some length to your chest muscles and make it easier to maintain good alignment.

I want to share a quick seated mobility session today. Lots of sitting isn't great for us, but this movement session is here to help you stay mobile while stuck sitting! This whole sequence or little pieces of it scattered throughout your day can really help keep you from getting stiff and may even improve your mobility if you do it regularly enough!

Hey everyone! Benjamyn Smith, AKA Doctor Ben here, to talk about different ways you can massage the muscles in your rotator cuff. Don't forget to share the video!
There are four muscles that make up your rotator cuff, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor. These muscles help keep your shoulder in place. If you develop trigger points or tightness in these muscles you will likely have altered shoulder function.
In this video I'm going to share several different techniques to massage these muscles. Restoring these muscles to a healthy state can go a long way to improving shoulder mobility and strength. These muscles can be difficult to reach, so I usually use a theracane or a ball to get pressure on these muscles.

Doctor Ben here. This vlog is a little different from most of my videos so far. I just want to talk about how I've not been creating a life with intent and how it's set me up to live a life that isn't mine.
How to build the life you want? So far I just thought I'd wing it and have a good time. I hate planning. It makes me feel caged, but all of this winging it has shown me that I need at least a direction or I'll just follow the prescribed path.
You know the one I'm talking about. Go to school, get good grades, get into a good college, get a good job, and retire. If that's for you then great! But it's not for me. And the more I avoid planning around this path and working toward my own path, the more I end up on that standard path.
What is a life of intention? It's a life that you have actively molded into the form that you want to live. Without this intention, I'm not sure there can be happiness.

The skill of balancing is often overlooked. It's an important skill and a lack of skill here can have life changing consequences. This is especially true in older populations. Today, we're gonna work on balancing!
You are going to need something to balance on but fear not! You can just pick up a 2x4 at a local home improvement store for a few bucks. We're going to be practicing shuffling from side to side and walking front to back.
Take your time on this and if you're falling off often no big deal. That just means you need more balance practice. Set a timer for 10-20 minutes and play on your 2x4!

It can be incredibly difficult to figure out how to start when you head out on your fitness journey. But the trick is to not try to do it all at once. That's why I recommend starting with these things.
They don't require anything fancy and almost anyone can do them no matter who they are or where they live!

In this week's natural movement session were going to be working from side bent sit to build hip mobility. This session will be a little more advanced than previous sessions so you'll want to have some bolsters handy to help you get into the positions comfortably.
Like in every natural movement session, make sure to take your time and don't force the positions. Do what you can do and everything you do the session, it'll get a little easier. Side bent side is a fantastic position for hip mobility so just keep working at it and you'll get there!
