Twitter made it easier to see quote tweets on iOS on May 12th, and that new functionality is now available on Twitter for Android and for the web, the company announced today.
If you tap or click on the “Retweets” word on a tweet, you’ll be taken to a new page that lets you look at one of two columns: a column showing retweets with comments and a column showing all retweets without comments.
The new feature the latest of many that Twitter has rolled out recently to make it easier to follow and track conversations on the platform. One that I’m a particular fan of is the new interface for threaded conversations, which is available to some iOS and web users. And just yesterday, Twitter began testing a way to let users limit replies to tweets, which could help prevent abuse and harassment on the platform but does have some thorny implications for politicians’ tweets and the spreading of misleading or fake information.

Nasa has revealed its observations from a trip to Ceres, the mysterious world in the asteroid belt.
Ceres is a dwarf planet, and the largest of the huge number of objects that are found in the ring of rocks between Mars and Jupiter.
Now scientists using data from Nasa observations of the world have revealed a host of new information about that distant dwarf planet.
Ceres is roughly 600 miles wide, and lies less than three times as far from Earth as the Sun. As such, it is distant from us but close enough to experience the sun's warmth.
Such worlds are one of the various hopes for finding life in our solar system, and scientists have suggested that the latest findings will help inform the search for alien life on dwarf planets such as Ceres.
"Long believed to be a primitive body, Ceres is now an ocean world with deep brines at a regional and potentially global scale," wrote Nasa's Julie Castillo-Rogez, a planetary scientist who did not work on the study. She urged more research and a follow-up mission that could study the evolution of the planet – and its "potential habitability".
The new results come from the Dawn spacecraft, which orbited around Ceres from 2015 to 2018, when it ran out of fuel. Just before it did, it orbited right above the surface of Ceres, focusing on the Occator crater, a 20-million-year old feature that was seen to be emitting a strange glow.
The research shows that Ceres is an ocean world, and that it may have been geologically active in the recent past.
And it also adds yet more wonder to the planet, suggesting that the various glowing parts of the surface were formed from different sources.
The findings are discussed in seven new papers published in Nature journals, offering a variety of new information about the dwarf planet.
Instagram Stories has grown to become one of Facebook’s best products to date. As of last year, roughly half of Instagram’s users — or 500 million people — were interacting with Stories on a daily basis. That’s nearly double the entire daily active user base of all of Snapchat, which first popularized the Stories format. Now, it appears Instagram is testing a way to expand the Stories experience, making it a more of a central focus in the Instagram app.
The company is newly testing a feature that will allow Instagram users to see more Stories at once, both on the home screen and in a new Stories-only experience.
In the test, users will initially see two rows of Stories instead of one at the top of the screen when they first open the Instagram app. A button will also appear beneath this expanded Stories area that lets you click to “See All Stories.”
This will then launch a new screen where you can view and scroll through all your available Stories in a full-screen experience.
The feature was first spotted by California-based social media manager Julian Gamboa late last week, who shared a screenshot of the new Stories interface to Twitter.
Instagram confirmed to TechCrunch this is a test with a small number of users for the time being. The company declined to provide further details, but said the test has been live for over a month.
It’s not surprising to see Facebook toying with ideas that would allow it to push more users to engage with Stories, given the product’s massive appeal, growth and increasing importance to Facebook advertisers.
In Q3 2019, Facebook called Stories one of its biggest growth areas, noting that then 3 million of its 7 million total advertisers were now advertising across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger Stories combined. By Q4, the number of advertisers using Story Ads had grown to 4 million.
To cater to advertisers’ needs, Facebook last year introduced customizable templates where businesses can upload their photos and videos, then choose from different layouts, color and text options to make more engaging Stories. And to make it easier to participate in Stories, Facebook now allows advertisers to buy across Facebook, Messenger and Instagram all at once.

In less than one week, Samsung will host the Unpacked event online, during which the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Fold 2 are expected to be announced. The timing of the August event is curious, because just a couple weeks back Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, an update to the Galaxy Z Flip that launched earlier this year. Samsung's Unpacked event takes place virtually on Wednesday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT. Unpacked follows similar events by companies like Apple, which have shifted events online due to the coronavirus pandemic. Samsung will stream the event live from South Korea.
But you can join CNET before, during and after the event on its livestream hosted by Senior Editors Iyaz Akhtar and Bridget Carey, along with Editor At Large Jeff Bakalar. Senior Reporter Shara Tibken will make a special guest appearance before the event.
In a post in Samsung's online newsroom, the head of Samsung's mobile business, Tae-moon Roh, shared that the company will introduce five new devices at the event. Leaks and rumors point to two Galaxy Note 20 devices and the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which would be a follow-up to last year's Galaxy Fold.
Members of the media received an Unpacked event invitation with a picture of a copper-colored liquid splash. This could be a clue to the color of some, if not all of the new devices that will be announced. The video above shows the tip of an S-Pen stylus that comes with Galaxy Note devices. A circular drop of the copper-colored liquid drips from its tip.
Samsung will host a livestream of the event on its website.
Apple iOS 13.5 is the most important iOS update in years and my upgrade guide strongly recommends you install it. But it is not bug free.
Alongside growing reports of high battery drain, Apple customer support has confirmed to users that iPadOS can cause boot loops on the iPad Pro and media playback of the hugely popular MP4/MPEG-4 container format is broken for both iPad and iPhone owners.
Breaking down the former, AppleInsider states that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro is most commonly affected with reboots occurring “between 30 seconds and 45 seconds after logging in”. Full factory resets and even putting devices into DFU mode have not fixed the problem for many. Interestingly, there are also isolated reports of this impacting iPhones, while the issue seems to span both iPadOS / iOS 13.4.1 and 13.5 for impacted users.
It is a similar story with MP4 playback with the problem spanning both 13.4.1 and 13.5 and impacted users have lost access to their video libraries (1,2,3,4,5 etc) with native apps and third party apps like NPlayer and InFuse. While Apple switched default video recording to HEVC in iOS 11, support for this remains mixed so switching it to MP4 (still the most popular container format in the world) is a popular option.
Cebu police arrested a woman on Wednesday morning for allegedly offering online a ₱75-M bounty to anyone who will kill President Rodrigo Duterte. The arrest came two days after authorities apprehended a teacher in Zambales who made a similar reward offer for the President's slay.
Maria Catherine Ceron, 26, will be charged with inciting to sedition, according to Major Roland Tolosa, deputy chief of the police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas.
