PROs
1. Fewer chemicals
People have gotten into the habit of storing food in plastic containers and then washing and reusing those containers which wears down the plastic and causes chemicals from the plastic to seep into your food. This can cause a lot of toxicity in your body, so avoiding plastic in food storage is really important.
2. They all stack securely and nest in each other
They stack well both with the lids on when they’re in use and off when they’re not in use. And if you take the lids off, they also nest very nicely.
3. High-quality glass
The walls are quite thick and sturdy. And the edges are very smooth. In comparison, we bought some Anchor-Hocking brand containers that are very similar, but the bottoms have some sharp edges that I’ve cut myself on. So I was very happy when the pyrex containers did not have that issue.
4. Oven-safe
I’ve even put them in a hot oven straight from the fridge (which often causes ceramic and glass to crack) but the temperature difference hasn’t been an issue with these.
5. They are also freezer safe
Just be careful if storing liquid in the freezer in them as the liquid will expend when frozen and could break the containers.
6. The lids are water-tight
This prevents spills and keep the food fresh longer by locking out air.
7. Dishwasher safe
If you have plastic containers, they will probably warp if you put them on the bottom rack or if the temperature is too high. But these heat-resistant glass containers can go on either rack—making it easier to fit all your dishes in a single wash.
CONs
1. The lids are plastic
They are advertised as BPA free, but as I’ve said in other videos, that doesn’t mean they are free from other harmful chemicals. Often when plastics are advertised as BPA free, they instead use BPS or Diphenyl sulfone which are arguably just as bad for you.
I would like to see a company use some kind of natural lid material with a strong water-tight seal, but as of now, I’m not aware of any. So, I think this might be the best option.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Despite my issue with the lids, these are a huge step up from plastic storage containers. They are high-quality; they’re versatile; and they look really nice. So, I highly recommend them.
