How to Run a Faster 5K? The 5 km is a good distance for everyone because it is a short distance with which you can start running and feel proud to finish your first 5K, or if you already have more running experience you know that 5 km races are necessary to improve your speed and help you reach your personal best in any other distance, or you can use them as a control test to see how you improve your competition pace. Now how can I run 5km faster? If you are going to run your first 5 km and you are a beginner, the goal is really to FINISH the full 5 km, so the time it takes you to go through them should not really worry you now. But these tips might help you improve your stride a bit. For those who have more running experience, here are some exercises that you could include in your training plan which will help you run the 5 km faster. 1.- Training plan It is convenient to review the training plan that you are following and, if you want to do a 5 km race, try to add or change some exercises that are more specific than 5 km. For example, add rises as a basic part of your plan and strength exercises (see points 3 and 4). This will ensure that you are physically ready for the 5 km 2.- Speed sessions To run fast you need to train to run fast. Incorporate some speed sessions into your training plan. Generally, speed sessions should go at the beginning of your training plan, that is, months before your 5K competition. Exercises can range from short and fast (from 20 to 30 seconds fast), to repetitions of 1,600 m (one mile), up to 15 to 20 minutes of tempo runs.
