I forgot to add a bypass capacitor across the voltage rail of a DC bias supply and it caused my analog signal to bleed through to the output of the circuit when it was supposed to be "off".
Using a combination of calculations and LTSPICE simulations I figured out a capacitor value that should work, then I tested it in circuit. I ran into another signal anomaly but that's for another day...
If you need to quickly get a rotary encoder project up and running and there's no time for setting up an Arduino or micro controller, if you have some basic digital logic chips there's several ways to get a prototype going.

How to use a keypad with Arduino. I am using a 4x4 membrane keypad but the Arduino Keypad library can support custom matrix sizes as well.
Multiple keypresses are supported with the library also, but watch out for keyboard ghosting.

555 Timer Dev Board giveaway winner announced!
To help select the winner, I made a 2 digit 7 segment LED display old school style on my old Jameco breadboard using a 7490 BCD decade counter, a 7447 common anode 7 segment decoder/driver, misc glue logic to customize it with extra features for the draw, and it's all clocked by the 555 dev board in astable mode.

Here's a first look at the Mustool MT315 digital microscope and how it performs for SMD soldering and inspection. Since the microscope also comes with sample slides, I also look at those at various magnifications to see how the images look on the built in 7 inch HD display and then switch over to a PCB for some soldering while using the computer as a display.

When a circuit must stay running during momentary power loss, or at least long enough to power down safely, hold up capacitor banks can power the load in the absence of input power.
Here's a project demonstrating how to determine the size of a hold up capacitor required to power a given load for a certain time period when input power is removed.

The X9C series of digital potentiometers feature a simple 3 wire control interface, provide 100 steps of wiper adjustment, and can optionally save the wiper position for automatic recall of the setting after power on.
Here's an Arduino Uno sketch showing how easy it is to control and use the X9C family of digital pots.
