The reason Newton's method fails at points of inflection is that there are no tangent lines possible there.
The method fails consistently when there is a root (x^3 and x=0) and also when there is no root (x^3+10 and x=0).
From slide 3, it is observed that the method in which tangent lines are found is not possible at x=0. If there were a tangent line at x=0, then x=c+f(c)/f'(c) must be defined. It is IMPOSSIBLE because f(c)/f'(c) = 0/0 which is nonsense. This is compounded by the circular definition of Cauchy's derivative, that is, the incorrect assumption that f'(0)=0.
The method does not fail because of regula falsi.
The gist of the matter is this:
Newton's method works fine for every function that has roots, unless of course those roots also happen to be **points of inflection**.
The common denominator is POINT OF INFLECTION.
There are NO tangent lines possible at points of inflection.
If Newton thought of tangent lines in the same way as the BIG STUPID, there would not have been derivatives or differential calculus, never mind the root approximation method.

It's pretty clear that 1/2 DOES NOT mean 1 divided by 2. 1/2 is a number in its own right. Division is a finite process of subtraction only possible in algebra if p is greater than q where p/q is considered.
Consider that in base 10 we write:

To arrive at 0.5, we divided 10 by 2, but that is NOT the same as 1 divided by 2. In truth all we did was multiply by 10/10, not changing the value of the number 1/2 at all.
and in base 2 we write:

To arrive at 0.1, we divided 2 by 2, but that is NOT the same as 1 divided by 2. In truth all we did was multiply by 2/2, not changing the value of the number 1/2 at all.
So, converting a number to its radix representation is NOT division. Division is only a very small part of it because we multiply and subtract and use many of the properties of numbers. Many other things are happening. Ironically, nothing actually changes with respect to the number because multiplying by b/b = 1 where b is the base, does not change the number.

In this video, I show you that a derivative is just like any other function, with the exception that the plot is not done in terms of rise/run but rather in terms of angle so that for a curve that is smooth over a given interval, there is a derivative at every point.
