* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Los Angeles, California — On April 6, 2022, around 2:20 p.m., officers responded to a radio call in the 8700 block of Tobias Avenue. The comments of the call indicated that a male suspect was breaking windows, armed with a knife and threatening to kill a person. When the officers arrived to the area of the call they made contact and verbalized with the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jesus Alan Castellanos. Castellanos refused to comply with the officer’s commands and charged at the officers with a knife in his hand, resulting in an officer involved shooting and a simultaneous taser deployment. Castellanos was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and determined Castellanos deceased. A 6-inch knife was recovered at scene. No officers or bystanders were injured during the incident. ** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** Deltona, Florida — On Sunday morning (8/16/20), a blue Honda hatchback fled from a Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety officer who attempted a traffic stop for speeding. The vehicle also fled from the Port Orange Police Department and the Daytona Beach Police Department en route to I-4, where it was spotted by Air One overhead. After fleeing across I-4 toward Deltona, the driver lost control of the car, which had deflated tires due to successful stop stick deployments. The car crashed into a ditch, and the driver, Kevin Morales, 24, was taken into custody, charged with multiple counts of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, no valid DL, and attaching a tag not assigned.There were no injuries in the crash, and Morales' passenger was released with no charges. * (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Vancouver, Washington — On May 21, 2023, two Vancouver Police officers, Officer Gabriel Patterson and Officer Andrea Mendoza responded to a call from a Walmart loss prevention employee who was requesting law enforcement trespass two individuals who they had seen conceal merchandise and leave the store without an attempt to pay for the items. Two arriving VPD officers located the subjects matching the description in the parking lot, made verbal contact with them and informed them they were not free to leave. The male subject, identified as 19-year-old Elijah Guffey-Prejean took several steps away and Officer Patterson grabbed the subject’s arm to prevent him from fleeing. The female subject took off running and was not located. The two VPD officers were able to get Guffey-Prejean to the ground however, before he could be handcuffed, he jumped up, punched one of the officers in the face and kicked the other officer in the chest. Both officers began struggling with him to gain control. Officer Mendoza deployed a Taser to Guffey-Prejean’s back to gain compliance, which was not effective enough to get him handcuffed. During the struggle, Officer Mendoza exposed the Guffey-Prejean’s genital area and threatened to activate the Taser if he did not stop resisting. He then complied and was able to be handcuffed. He was provided medical aid at the scene and was subsequently transported to the hospital for additional evaluation before being booked into the Clark County Jail for Assault III and Theft III. The incident was recorded on the body cameras of both officers and security footage from Wal Mart’s camera. The reports and body camera footage were appropriately filed by the responding officers, in compliance with department protocols. Based on the supervisor’s review, this incident was brought to the attention of the office of the chief on May 24 and Officer Mendoza who deployed the Taser was immediately placed on administrative leave. The case was referred to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office on May 24 for independent investigation. Additionally, an internal VPD investigation was also opened. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office investigation was completed on July 20 and forwarded to the Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review. ** (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) ** Seattle Police Force Investigation Team (FIT) detectives and the King County Sheriff’s Office are conducting separate investigations into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred in the 600 block of 3rd Avenue West just after 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. West Precinct patrol officers responded to a 911 call from a woman reporting her boyfriend had armed himself with a knife and was trying to assault her. The victim told 911 operators she was hiding in the bathroom and the suspect was still in the apartment. Officers arrived and confronted the suspect. Two officers fired their service weapons, fatally wounding the suspect. Neither the domestic violence victim, nor any of the involved officers were injured. Seattle Fire medics responded and declared the suspect deceased. He is an adult man. Additional details about him are not yet available. Detectives from the Force Investigation Team, CSI, as well as representatives from the Office of Police Accountability and the Inspector General, were present at the scene. Per the Department’s agreement with the King County Sheriff’s Office, and in accordance with Initiative 940, Sheriff’s Office investigators also responded to conduct an independent investigation.
