Does an increase in the minimum wage cause an increase in crime? This caller seems to think so. And if you disagree with him, he can certainly send you the study so you can investigate yourself. What do you think the minimum wage should be? Would you support an earned income tax credit? Or should we expand the social safety net so a minimum wage isn't as necessary?

http://youtube.com/SamSederCaller: Is this me? I am Alacrity from Alabama and I have returned Mr. Seder.
Sam Seder: You've returned to where?
Caller: To this show. I wish to address this. I just wanted to say two things. one I addressed some of the points made in your show it's on your majority report read it. I don't know if you saw it but I just wanted to say that and two I wanted to address something that you said towards the end of the show last week when I called. Oh it's quite alright I'm going to explain it anyway towards the end you mentioned something about the minimum wage and about the incentivization of technological development how that be a benefit of the minimum wage and my point is that yes that would be the case but the problem is that the minimum wage has other drawbacks that make it an undesirable policy especially when you have other ones such as the earned income tax credit that are superior and don't have the drawback for the minimum wage does. i can detail this empirically if you're interested.
Sam Seder: no
Caller: Okay so what do you review on the minimum wage then you mentioned a 25 minimum wage potentially was that something that you would like but just wouldn't implement because it's infeasible politically or and what are your economic what is your economic take on that.
Sam Seder: I mean I think around the country you know we could easily go up to fifteen-twenty dollars. As a federal minimum wage, I would probably start now tomorrow with 15 minimum wage. and certainly, in other parts of the country, I would start with a 25 minimum wage. In some parts of the country I mean I would do that. But I wouldn't necessarily be against an earned income tax credit. you know an increase in that and you know to offset the minimum wage.
