** About the Video: Day 1 of 5 **
I recently left the peace and tranquility of the cabin on a 5-day trip back to the city of Calgary in the neighbouring Canadian province of Alberta, driving 8 long hours West from our little cabin in the Kootenays of British Columbia (with two little senior pugs in tow).
Over the past three years as I attempted to reconcile my "City Girl Brandy" identity with my "Rural Kootenay Brandy" identity, I had taken this loooooooong trip from our tiny little village in the West Kootenays to the big city of Calgary COUNTLESS times. For each and every one of those times, Jonas - my late soulmate dog - had been with us.
This was my first trip back to the city in seven long months, and my first trip back to the city without Jonas. Every time I make the trip out of the forest and away from the lake over to the towering glass-and-concrete high rises of the city, I learn something new about myself, my values, and the way I want to show up in the world.
Originally, I was undecided about making the effort to vlog and document this trip to Calgary. I used to share every detail of my Calgary trips on my IG stories, but in the end, I decided to vlog about it for YouTube this time to hopefully reach more people who might find it interesting or entertaining. I also wanted these experiences to live on for a little longer than they ever would on other social media platforms.
This vlog series will be episodic - Day 1 to Day 5 - and put in a playlist to watch from start to finish. The vlogs chronicle travelling a long distance with Fern and Ivy (my two senior pugs), sleeping & waking up on a small couch, getting my hair cut for the first time in three years, shopping at a big 'ol city shopping mall for my little sister Ryley's birthday, and then travelling 4 hours to Edmonton - the northern capitol of Alberta that literally nobody likes - to experience her world & reality, which is soooo fucking different to my own in almost every imaginable way.
The last vlog will chronicle my trip home back West Kootenays and across Kootenay Lake, back to the cabin and Jesse and the Steller's Jays (who desperately needed an urgent peanut delivery ?)
Huge shout-out to my partner, Jesse, for taking the time to edit together all of my random clips into these beautiful, adorable little travel stories ?

From the cabin to the city: Day FOUR of FIVE
On day four of my five-day trip to Calgary, my Mom & I drove four hours North to Edmonton, Alberta with all four dogs - Fern, Ivy, Julius & Mina - to visit my little sister, Ryley.
Ryley owns her own permanent makeup studio, Rybrows Studios - located in downtown Edmonton, Alberta, a world vastly different than my own back at the cabin property.
Join us as we load up the dogs up in the car, hit the road and drive to yet another big city to deliver Ryley's belated birthday present, check out her new studio to have my eyebrows microbladed, get a grand tour of her 18th-floor apartment overlooking Roger's Place, and enjoy a late lunch (where I finally get to meet her partner Zach for the first time) before driving all the way back to Calgary in the dark.
This vlog is part three of a five-part series chronicling my adventure out of the deep woods and over to the city I came from almost four years ago ?

Each one of our senior pugs has a favorite indoor enrichment puzzle activity for fun, play, and mental stimulation.
Jonas has loved his "topple toy" (or treat-dispensing "Dog Pyramid") for YEARS...
Fern is completely obsessed with her snuffle mat...
And IVY is an interactive puzzle-solving Queen!
We use these toys for Jonas, Fern, and Ivy whenever the weather isn't in our favour for too much outdoor time, especially on super cold winter days and super hot summer days. However, in their older age, we aren't able to walk very much anymore, anyway, so these toys are a great way to add a little variety to each day.
Interactive puzzles, toys, and games are great for addressing our dog's boredom, relieving stress and anxiety, as well as encouraging natural foraging behaviours ?
In this video, I walk you through how & why we use each of our interactive enrichment toys before showing you just how much each pug loves them.
Thanks for watching!

:: About this Video ::
Okay, I feel like this is a terrible vlog because of all of the camera mishaps and crappy audio, but sometimes I just have to get my thoughts out of my brain and am not in the headspace to create a perfect, aesthetic video ?
Today I'm sharing about the "new" place that Jesse, the pugs and I are going to be moving into after making the excruciating and inevitable decision to move out of my dream cabin following Jesse's brain tumour diagnoses as we prepare for his surgery & recovery on June 28.
I also share our less-than-ideal exit/move-out strategy, what's coming up for me and Grumble Farm over the summer with this big difficult change, and how incredibly frustrating it's been to try and share an ever-changing story with the internet. Maybe things could just stay still for a moment?
Towards the end of this video, I was given the answer to that question... and it's a big, fat NOPE!
Thank you for watching, thank you for listening, and as always, thank you for your intentional presence ?
I'll be back soon with an update...

How to Start a Fire in a Wood Stove - Super Easy & Simple!
Jesse & I start off every morning off by drinking bulletproof coffee out of our Grumble Farm Yeti mugs while sitting on the couch in the living room in front of our wood stove fire. We call it our Morning Crackle, and those of you who follow along with our IG stories have sent a few requests for a tutorial video to teach you how we start them!
This is obviously one of many ways to start a fire, but we find that this method works the most consistently for us to keep those hygge vibes flowin' throughout the day. Thanks for the lesson, Jesse ?
