The cheapest CD player ever made is surprisingly good - the 1988 Yorx CD Pal
A closer look at a CD player I first did a video about nearly 12 years ago: the Yorx CD Pal, also sold by J.C. Penney. One of the first CD players to cost less than $100, it lacks many features, but actually has several things in common with much more expensive CD players. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gweC0JULDbk
A well-built Pentium-90 laptop, circa 1997, with a really convenient built-in AC adapter. Aside from the dim, shadowy passive matrix color LCD, it was an excellent machine for its time, and has served me well over the years.

The biggest ThinkPads of 2001-2002, unfortunately not equipped with the highly-sought-after 1400x1050 IPS FlexView display, but still having some unique features and capabilities not found on modern laptops. Correction: The Fujitsu MHK2120AT drive shown in the Device Manager is actually the hard drive, not the LS240 drive.

My favorite Casio keyboard demo song -- a very fast and stylized rendition of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21. It sure beats "Unterlanders Heimweh"! The PT-100 was one of Casio's last and most advanced square wave keyboards, and produces some very unique and interesting instrument and percussion sounds.

More dance music on AM radio, this time from 1670 CJEU in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada at night. Then some Greek music from 1690 CHTO in Toronto, Ontario -- as heard on the radio in my mom's 2007 Jeep Liberty, which unfortunately doesn't have AM Stereo or RDS.

1.9L Turbo Direct Injection diesel engine, 4-speed automatic (unfortunately!), made in Brazil. Its 12-year, unlimited mileage corrosion warranty is still in effect until next year, and so far, it has absolutely no rust. Its original EPA rating was 34 MPG city, 45 MPG highway (U.S.).

This PII-233 MHz Gateway 2000 was one of the first computers to come with a DVD reader drive. Since the main CPU was not fast enough to support full-motion MPEG2 decoding for DVD playback, it uses a hardware MPEG decoder board which attaches to the video and sound cards. Unfortunately, the DVD-ROM drive is broken, and the motherboard has a "resource conflict" error which prevents it from properly recognizing IDE drives, even when using an external PCI controller.

This Emerson CRC-98D cassette recorder looks nice and feels well-built, but its recording quality is extremely poor. This might be due to the lack of any functional bias, either AC or DC. Playback quality is still pretty good, though.

I feel guilty for getting all this for such a low price, but at least it found a good home: a box full of classic 45 RPM singles from the mid to late '70s, including some with the original picture sleeves. All the ones I've tried so far are in excellent condition, too, with minimal wear. Also included in the box were two WABC Musicradio 77 Weekly Surveys and a Top 25 Pop Hits newspaper clipping, all from 1975.
I hope to eventually feature many of these hit songs on my music channel:

The electric propulsion system on the Washington, DC metro subway trains makes a very cool whistle or whine noise as it brings the motors up to speed. Also, the red lights along the track pulsate when a train is approaching. These used to be white light bulbs which would flash much more noticeably, but now they are all red LEDs to save energy and reduce maintenance.
