Today we welcome Roseanne Onyia Founder of a Clinical Research Organization in Nigeria called Clinique Research Development Limited.
TrialSite suggested in previous writings that perhaps clinical research could represent a framework to bring together healthcare assets nationwide in a way that encourages innovation helping it to potentially leapfrog existing constraints. Ms. Onyia is the convener of the nation’s Clinical Investigators Summit bringing together key stakeholders representing clinical research to discuss the state of clinical trials in Nigeria.

Intensifying German protests have now spread beyond farmers to include other citizens. The German government's proposed budget compromise, which aimed to retain an exemption from car tax for farming vehicles and stagger planned cuts to diesel subsidies, was rejected by the German Farmers Association. They demand a complete reversal of both proposals. Meanwhile the right-wing Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party is capitalizing on the situation by calling for a "general strike" and using social media to portray the government as irresponsible, criticizing the government over tariff-free grain imports from Ukraine and accusing it of neglecting domestic farmers

#Famotidine Leads to Improved #COVID19 Patient Outcomes based on Retrospective Case Series Led by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory:
A group of prominent New York-based physicians and scientists led by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Northwell Health Cancer institute conducted a retrospective case series targeting ten (10) non-hospitalized patients with SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been alleged that the over-the-counter histamine-2 receptor antagonist called Famotidine could possibly address the novel coronavirus. This insight originally derived from the analysis of Dr. Robert Malone and team associated with the U.S. government research contracts as well as observations of a prominent physician and research named Dr. Michael Callahan after his analysis of over 6,000 patient records at the Wuhan pandemic epicenter. After monitoring and quantitatively analyzing the longitudinal changes in patient reported outcome measures of patients who had been self-administering high-doses of Famotidine orally, the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and Northwell Health investigational team found that not only are high doses well tolerated but they are associated with improved patient-reported outcomes in non-hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Meanwhile, a large study at Northwell has commenced in April, including both hydroxychloroquine and Famotidine but there is uncertainty with the use of the anti-malarial drug moving forward.

In Slovakia, a team of researchers with expertise in clinical pharmacology analyzed data associated with spontaneous reports of suspected adverse reactions post-administration with COVID-19 vaccines. Represented by Stefan Lassan, corresponding author affiliated with Slovak Medical University, and Bratislava University Hospital, both in Slovakia, and colleagues had their findings published earlier in the year in the peer review journal Frontiers Pharmacology. This study looks into COVID-19 vaccination rates in the Slovak Republic, where the vaccination rate was at 58%, well below the target below the World Health Organization's targeted 70%. One of the key reasons for hesitancy in this Eastern European nation: concern about serious adverse events. Thus, the importance of this study is to review the incidence of reported adverse reactions of authorized COVID-19 vaccines which in Slovakia include Comirnaty (Pfizer); Vaxzervia (AstraZeneca), and Spikevax (Moderna) registered with the State Institute for Drug Control between January 1, 2021, and May 31, 2021. Conducting this retrospective analysis, the researchers report on this first analysis targeting the nation of Slovakia involving the incidence of reported adverse reactions associated with COVID-19 vaccines. While tracking spontaneous adverse events has been difficult, given the call for reporting on such events during the study time period, the study authors report a significant increase in such reports—a five-fold increase in vaccine-related incidents in just the first half of 2021. The AstraZeneca jab was associated with the highest rate of suspicious serious adverse reactions.

The ongoing French Farmer protest has escalated, with tensions particularly high in Paris. On January 31st, French police detained over 79 individuals who broke into a wholesale food market south of Paris. This incident is part of a larger movement where convoys of tractors and protesting farmers have closed in on Paris, Lyon, and other strategic locations across France. The protests are driven by farmers' demands for higher incomes, less bureaucracy, and protection against cheap imports. They are also protesting against the government's plans to reduce subsidies on agricultural diesel and the requirement to convert 4% of farmland to "non-productive" areas for environmental purposes. The French government has offered some concessions, but these have been deemed insufficient by the farmers.
