"Surat al-Ham al-Sajdah"
Name :
The name of this surah is a combination of two words. One is hum, the other is prostration. It means that the Surah which begins with Ham and in which the verse Sajdah is mentioned at one place.
Time of descent:
According to reliable traditions, the time of its revelation is after the conversion of Hazrat Hamza (RA) and before the conversion of Hazrat Umar (RA). Muhammad bin Ishaq, the oldest biographer of the Prophet Muhammad bin Ishaq, has narrated this story with reference to the famous Tabi Muhammad bin Ka’b al-Qurzi that once some chiefs of the Quraish were sitting in a gathering in the Haram Mosque and the Messenger of Allah was alone in another corner of the mosque. were present This was the time when Hazrat Hamza had converted and the people of Quraish were getting worried seeing the increasing number of Muslims. On this occasion, Utbah bin Rabi'ah (father-in-law of Abu Sufyan) said to the Quraysh chiefs, "Sirs, if you like, I will go and talk to Muhammad (peace be upon him) and put some suggestions before him, perhaps he will be one of them." Accept it and we also accept it and thus they stop opposing us. All those present agreed with him and Utba got up and went to the Prophet ﷺ. When the Prophet ﷺ turned towards him, he said, "Nephew, you know the position you hold in your nation in terms of your lineage and family." But you have brought a great trouble on your nation. You have divided the party. The entire nation was fooled. The evil of the nation's religion and its gods. And they started saying such things, which mean that our ancestors were disbelievers. Now listen to me. I have some suggestions before you. Consider them. Perhaps you should accept one of them." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, Abu Waleed, you say, I will listen. He said: "Nephew, if your aim is to get wealth from this work that you have started, then we all together give you so much that you become the richest among us." If you want your glory from it, we will make you our chief, we will not decide any matter without you. If you want a kingdom, we will make you our king. And if a jinn comes upon you which you are not able to ward off by yourself, then we will call the best doctors and treat you at our own expense. Then he said, Abu Waleed has said what he wanted to say to you? He said, yes. He said, "Okay, now listen to me." After that he started reciting this Surah by reciting "Bismillah Rahman Rahman Raheem" and Utbah listened intently with both his hands on the ground behind his back. Upon reaching the verse of prostration (verse 38), he prostrated, then raised his head and said: "O Abu Waleed, you have heard my answer, now you should know your work." When he walked towards it, people saw him from a distance and said, By God, Utba's face has changed, this is not the form he went with. Then when he came and sat down, the people said: Did you come to hear? He said: By God, I heard such a word
