Bodycam Footage of Zonterious Johnson Shooting by Lawton Police in Oklahoma

Lawton, Oklahoma — On January 17, 2021 at approximately 3:30 am Lawton Police Officers were at the Lavish Lounge to conduct a compliance check. During this compliance check, there were a number of people still inside the building and a number of vehicles still in the parking lot. While conducting the compliance check, Officers heard shots being fired from outside the building. Those shots were not being fired by Lawton Police Officers. Body worn cameras indicate that at least ten (10) shots were fired outside the building. Officers exited the building and rushed towards the area where the shots were being fired from outside the building. An officer observed a male (later identified as 24-year-old Zonterious Johnson) standing in the street and shooting a weapon.
Officer Nathan Ronan also observed Johnson standing in the street with his arm extended, heard gunshots from that area, and observed another individual near a white sport utility vehicle, shooting back at Johnson. Johnson fled from the area and Officer Ronan identified himself as a police officer, gave commands for Johnson to stop, and pursued Johnson on foot. Johnson did not stop fleeing. Officer Ronan then pursued Johnson onto Tenth Street and into a dark alley, where Ronan lost sight of Johnson briefly due to a privacy fence. Officer Ronan illuminated the light on his weapon, went around the corner of the fence, and observed Johnson with a weapon. Johnson raised and produced the barrel of the weapon despite Ronan’s command to drop the weapon.
Officer Ronan then fired his weapon at Johnson. Zonterious Johnson was struck twice in the chest and once in the foot. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to Mr. Johnson, and he was transported to Comanche County Memorial Hospital by ambulance, where he succumbed to his injuries. Johnson’s weapon, which can be observed on the officer’s body camera, was recovered by OSBI. The weapon was determined to be a Taurus Model 9mm with an empty twelve (12) round capacity magazine. The slide was in the “locked back” position. OSBI also recovered seven (7) Speer 9mm Luger spent cartridge casings outside the Lavish Lounge that were identified as having been fired by the weapon recovered from Johnson.
OSBI also recovered a fired bullet inside the Lavish Lounge which was determined to be consistent with bullets typically loaded in 9mm Luger cartridges. No City of Lawton Police Officer on scene was carrying a 9mm weapon. The weapon recovered from Johnson was determined to have been purchased by an individual in Wichita Kansas, who is a relative of Darezane Porter, who has children with and was reportedly in a relationship with Johnson. OSBI forensic reports show that Johnson’s fingerprint was found on the magazine of his weapon. OSBI continues to investigate the related matter regarding the individual observed outside the Lavish Lounge near or in a white sport utility vehicle shooting back at Zonterious Johnson.

Decatur, Illinois — On March 18, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., Decatur Police officers stopped three subjects at 600 W. Grand, one matching the description of an armed robbery suspect from an incident that happened prior to the stop. Rocky Dupin, 38, was seen on surveillance camera footage robbing the Decatur Discount store for a glass pipe worth approximately $5. Police were able to identify Dupin later that afternoon because he was wearing the same clothing. During the course of the encounter, Dupin disobeyed commands and pulled a BB gun from his coat, at which time two DPD officers fired their weapons, striking the suspect. Dupin was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries. Dupin was armed with a BB gun that was a precise replica of a .357 snub-nosed revolver, exact down to brass bullet casings that hold a charge of CO2. After the shooting, the other subjects that were with Dupin fled the scene. Neither officer involved was injured.

Huber Heights, Ohio — On May 5, 2024, at 1:33 a.m., Huber Heights Police Division officers were dispatched to the area of State Route 4 and Chambersburg Rd on the report of a road rage incident. The victim stated the suspect had shot out his window and had rammed his car. The victim was trying to drive away from the suspect when he said the suspect shot at him again. They went to the Shell Gas Station at 8007 State Route 235. As officers arrived in the area, they saw the suspect vehicle leaving the parking lot of the gas station.
They attempted to stop the vehicle and it continued south on SR-235 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle turned onto New Carlisle Pike. Officers attempted a PIT maneuver on the suspect vehicle, but they were unsuccessful. They continued north on New Carlisle Pike where officers saw objects being thrown out of the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle proceeded west on Taylorsville Rd and came to a stop in a grassy area of a residence in the 9400 block of Taylorsville. The suspect exited the driver’s seat and was immediately ordered to the ground by officers. The suspect faced the officers and raise a black AR15-style rifle, pointing it directly at the officers.
The officer closest to the suspect opened fire and struck the suspect. The suspect fled from officers with his rifle still in hand, but turned around and pointed the rifle at the officers multiple times as he ran away. Huber Heights officers chased him on foot until he collapsed on the front porch of that same residence. Officers quickly called for a medic to respond to the scene and began first aid procedures to the suspect until medics arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, where he remains admitted for those injuries.

Pensacola, Florida — On June 13, 2020, Pensacola police officers received a call that a three year old girl had been found floating in a swimming pool at a residence of the north side of town. Officer Kyle Skipper was the first to arrive and saw the child’s grandmother attempting CPR. The child was unresponsive and was not breathing. Officer Skipper picked up the child and held her up off the ground and face down with one hand while using his other hand to firmly strike her back in an attempt to clear any obstructions. Officer Robert Lindblom arrived to assist, and as they were preparing to use the AED, she took a small breath.
Officer Lindblom located a pulse after giving chest compressions. The officers laid the child on her side in an attempt to keep her airway clear. The officers used their fingers to clear vomit from the child’s mouth, and the child began breathing better and began to move. The Pensacola Fire Department arrived along with Escambia County EMS, rushing the child to the hospital where she made a full recovery. The attending pediatric physician advised that the overall outlook would take time to determine, however he stated that without the efforts of the officers at the scene who got the child to start breathing, she would not have survived.

Seattle, Washington State — The Seattle Police Department released video of the incident, showing a K9 team, an SPD patrol officer, and a patrol sergeant contacting the burglary suspect. The video shows the suspect, who was armed with a machete and a knife, fatally stabbing Police Dog Jedi before an officer opens fire, fatally striking the suspect. Around 2:45 PM, the resident of a home in the 2200 block of South Eddy called 911 and reported a man armed with a knife was breaking into their home. A K9 team arrived on the call, saw the suspect, and began pursuing him as he fled on foot. In the 6700 block of Swift Avenue South, a police dog engaged with the suspect. The suspect then fatally stabbed the dog and injured an officer in an ensuing struggle. Another officer arrived on scene and fired at the suspect, fatally striking him.

Rusk County, Texas — On September 14, 2022, shortly after 1:00 a.m. Deputy Shane Iverson pulled over, 29-year-old Timothy Michael Randall for a traffic violation in the area of Highway 64 and CR 4125. Deputy Iverson told Randall he had pulled him over because he saw him run the stop sign at the 4-way stop, which Randall denied having done. He told Randall to get out of the vehicle, which he did, the video shows, but then he appears to struggle with the deputy when he was attempting to handcuff him. A physical struggle ensued. The struggle ended in a single gunshot that killed Randall.
Deputy Iverson shot Randall under his arm, and the bullet exited through his chest cavity, destroying his heart. Randall ran about 20 paces after he was shot, and then collapsed to the ground, where he died. During the pat-down, officials claim Randall “attempted to conceal contraband in his waistband and made furtive movements to his waistband.” The attorney for Rusk County said that the deputy believed Randall was attempting to hide a small gun down the front of his pants, but said it was later found to be a pipe in an eyeglasses case. In October 2023, Randall's mother Wendy Tippitt filed a federal lawsuit claiming wrongful death and civil rights violations.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin — On Thursday, June 20, 2024, at approximately 2:23 p.m., Milwaukee Police officers attempted to conduct a felony stop at N.17th Street and W. Vliet Street. The vehicle stopped was wanted in connection to an attempted armed robbery carjacking that occurred on the 500 block of N. Broadway. The vehicle was also wanted in connection to an armed robbery carjacking that occurred earlier in the day in the 500 block of N. Jefferson Street. The pursuit ended when the driver of the vehicle moved into the construction lane on I-43 near W. Vienna Avenue and was blocked by the construction and a cement truck. Several construction workers were working in this space during the incident.
MPD officers approached the vehicle, gave several commands to stop the vehicle and commanded the suspects to get out of the vehicle. The suspect driver reversed the vehicle striking a marked squad car. The suspect driver drove forward and then reversed the vehicle. An officer was located behind the vehicle. At this time, another officer discharged his firearm into the vehicle subsequently striking two suspects. A total of six suspects were in the vehicle. The suspect vehicle was determined to be a stolen auto and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. The gunshot-injured suspects are 18-year-old Ashley Patterson who has life- threatening injuries and 17-year-old Calveyon Jeans who has serious injuries.
The 18-year-old female was pregnant and the baby did not survive. Jeans was the driver and was shot in the arm and jaw. Patterson, who was pregnant, had gunshot wounds to her head and back; the unborn baby did not survive. These suspects were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The other four people in the car included 18-year-old Semira Dean, 17-year-old Tyrone Rogers, a 16-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. They were also taken to a hospital for minor injuries. Prosecutors charged 18-year-old Semira Dean, 17-year-old Calveyon Jeans, 18-year-old Ashley Patterson and 17-year-old Tyrone Rogers with a combined 20 crimes. Two other people, the 16-year-old boy and the 15-year-old girl, who were also arrested at the scene; it is unclear if they will face charges. The officer involved in this incident remains on administrative duty.

Albany, California — On September 21, 2023, a little before 11:15 a.m., the Berkeley Police Department and Albany Police Department responded to an active shooter at the Toyota of Berkeley Service Center, located at 1025 Eastshore Highway, in Albany. Dispatch centers for both police departments received 9-1-1 calls reporting a woman had been shot by a man who entered the service center and started shooting. The Berkeley Police Department arrived on the scene, evacuated the area, and entered the business to search for victim(s). A team of officers made it to the second floor of the building and encountered 24-year-old Lamar Walker crouched near a desk, pointing a silver firearm at them. Five officers discharged their firearms, striking Walker. On the floor near Walker, officers located 24-year-old Alonna Gallon, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. First responders provided emergency first aid to both parties, but they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.

Dayton, Ohio — On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Officers from Dayton Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday on the 1500 block of Bancroft Street in Dayton. A woman apparently told responding officers that her son, 29-year-old Tyler Patrick, was acting delusional and banging on the house. Officers spoke with Patrick inside the residence and determined that he should be taken to a local hospital. As one officer, later identified as Officer George Kloos, tried to walk Patrick out of the residence, he swung a concealed [pocket] knife at the officer and stabbed Kloos in the neck.
Patrick then attempted to stab two other officers as they tackled him onto a couch. Officers “wrestled” the knife out of his hand and took him into custody. Patrick was taken to the hospital for minor injuries he suffered during his arrest. He was treated, released and booked in the Montgomery County Jail. Patrick is facing three counts of felonious assault of a peace officer. Patrick appeared in court Friday afternoon where his bond was set at $500,000. He’s set to appear in court next on October 24, 2022. Officer Kloos, 10-year veteran of the force, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital and was released later that day. Doctors said the knife somehow missed the arteries in his neck. He is now home, and expected to make a full recovery.

Marion County, Florida — On Sunday, July 5, 2020, Deputy Samantha Horne observed a silver 2015 Hyundai Elantra driving down SE Abshire Blvd. A computer check revealed that the vehicle was stolen. Deputy Horne along with Belleview Police Department Officer Michaelides attempted a traffic stop, however the driver, later identified as Harley Moore, decided not to stop and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, a stop stick deployment was successful and the vehicle lost speed but still wouldn’t stop. Moore ended up crashing into another vehicle and attempted to continue to run.
At this time, Deputy Horne was able to conduct a PIT Maneuver, but Moore still attempted to drive away. Deputy Horne conducted another PIT and the pursuit ended. Deputy Horne was able to place the driver under arrested and Belleview Police Officer Coleman detained the passenger, identified as Harrison Blodnick. Moore was arrested for Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing/Elude, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. During a search of the vehicle Methamphetamine was located in the passenger side door and Blodnick was in possession of a syringe filled with Methamphetamine. He was arrested for Possession of Meth and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
