I'm always searching for good, cheap motocamping equipment, so this @HykeByke tent showed up on my radar. Their claims of this tent being "ultralight" are grossly exaggerated, but the tent isn't all that bad for the price point. The manufacturer could have made this tent much better with a few simple modifications that I mention in the video. Skip around with the chapter markers below. I purchased this tent with my own money to test as part of a "cheap moto-camping load-out" series a couple of years ago. Note that I assembled this tent in reverse order due to the rain. This method helps to keep the tent interior dry during setup. I left the rain fly open during this setup for the camera's sake, which is obviously not the best approach during the rain. I also didn't secure the fly to the poles using the ties, and I *might* have assembled the poles upside down? Hmm... ? I'd rate this tent as a 2/5 for a motocamping solution. The weight and overall size of the system is rather high for a supposed "ultralight" tent. I noticed minor to moderate quality control issues throughout the construction, but I didn't find any glaring problems during this test. The construction is heavy, but the rain fly seemed to work well. The self-healing YKK zippers were a nice surprise. However, the low bathtub floor and oversized mesh walls might work well in hot/dry climates, but they won't work well for cold/windy (or dusty) environments. I wasn't able to locate the source of the minor water leaks that I experienced during the first part of this test. The rain fly appeared to weather this storm fairly well, so the water ingress may have been "splashback" underneath the edges of the fly. The excessive clearance under the edges of the fly combined with the low bathtub floor permit a lot of airflow, and potentially water, to get into the tent. If you can afford a higher-quality backpacking tent in the $300 range, then I would recommend the @REI Half Dome 2+ tent that you can find in many of my other motocamping videos ( https://www.rei.com/product/185632/rei-co-op-half-dome-sl-2-tent-with-footprint ). Other 2P tents from premium brands such as Alps Mountaineering, Marmot, and MSR are also excellent choices in that same price range. Look for backpacking tents that have packed weights under 4.5 pounds and overall lengths under 18" if possible. Those will give you the best packing options for most motorcycle luggage. However, if you just need an entry-level tent, then this Zion 2P isn't a bad start if you can snag it for under $130. Cheers, and go camping! ??
