Here in Australia, we’ve been hit pretty hard with bushfires the last few months and it is affecting everyone in this country on some level. As always in these circumstances, there are no shortages of ideas, thoughts and opinions being shouted out as fact.
In this video, I talk with you about one area in particular and that is the importance of really analysing peoples language in these times of heightened awareness, in the hope you learn How to Avoid the Harmful Language of Others
I’ve heard and seen lots of people talking about ideas around Post Traumatic Stress, trauma, depression, anxiety and on and on. Now I want to be very clear in this. I am not suggesting that anyone is out there intentionally saying stuff to harm or manipulate people. At least, I hope there isn’t. I believe it is simply coming from a lack of understanding.
From those who have suffered from events in their own past to those who know someone who had a particular experience and even the professionals in the medical and mental health fields, all like to share what they believe “WILL, WON’T and HAS” happened to the people that have been affected.
“They WILL get this diagnosis”
“You WILL experience these symptoms”
“You WON'T get over it for a long time”
“This HAS destroyed your life”
The problem is that when statements like these are made, especially by those in a perceived position of authority, when our gatekeeper is down, these can act in the very same way as a powerful hypnotic suggestion. Going straight into the unconscious mind where it can brew and potentially create those very symptoms that have been suggested.
In this video, I'll teach you a number of ways to protect yourself from the language of others.

Lesson 13 Breathing - It's all in the pause
*WARNING This exercise should never become uncomfortable and you should never become light-headed. If you experience either of these or other negative effects, stop and return your breathing to normal immediately.
Usually, when someone has never actively controlled their breathing before, I have found that their breathing is continuous; in, out, in, out. The next step in breath control and awareness is to add a pause.

What I teach is a very basic stripped-down version of a Focused Attention Meditation. In its simplest terms, to focus on breath and hold a thought or visualisation in the mind. Today we’re talking about giving thanks, or gratitude.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that seems rooted in American history and tradition, but did you know that many countries around the world have their own versions of thanksgiving?
Most religions practise giving thanks in some form or another and to others, keeping a gratitude diary or journal of all the things they are grateful for is their way of giving thanks.
Originally, Thanksgiving was the celebration of a good harvest. Regardless of your reasons and to what you are giving thanks too, taking time out on a regular basis to focus on being grateful for what you have is a practice that can improve your life dramatically.
No matter what your situation, there is always something to be grateful for and the more time you spend focusing on those things, the less time you are worrying about the negative aspects of life.
