THE HORROR! Coffee Karen upset because she can't order latte inside the station while I play mellow
This was a good one. I'm already turned down to barely audible levels in the traffic noise, and I'm playing a super mellow song by Sade. Coffee Karen comes out of the train station and says "I don't know if you realize this, but we can't order a coffee in there because the way you put your speaker in the train station." The Horror! My first thought. "You poor deprived thing!" My second thought was "My amp is actually outside." I'm playing about as mellow as it's possible to play and Karen still thinks it's too aggressive. I asked her to shut the door on her way back in. She probably called the cops, too.

I consider this a live concert from my living room, so feel free to tip if inclined. People always ask me if I can do a live stream. Here's why I don't do it. 1) I can't take tips through youtube chat as I've been demonetized. 2) Getting audio as good as it is in this video is impossible. 3) I cannot play with amplification in my living room. 4) This is just as live as live, with maybe a 24 hour delay from the actual recording. 5) A delay allows me to add cool effects the video.
1) Street playing is not all fun and games and dancing kids. Doing this for 7 years. I regularly face not only verbal abuse, but physical assault as I work a few blocks from downtown eastside Vancouver. I'm surrounded by addicts, drunks, and people who should be in mental homes.
2) I'm unemployed. All live music including busking, is banned. I lost all work last year and received ZERO compensation. I had a very bad year in 2020 and only recently came out of a depression.
3) I make ZERO from youtube no matter how many views I get. I was demonetized by Google years ago as part of their culling of small accounts. Class action lawsuit was initiated. I don't run ads. And more importantly, even if I did, most of my videos are instantly copyrighted and auto monetized by record labels because they are COVERS. If you see an ad, it's the record label collecting. If you liked the performance, please think about supporting me on patreon/paypal tip/bandcamp.
4) I'm a musician that writes his own music for 20 years. Check out my bandcamp page to see what I can really do with a guitar. 500 albums of original instrumentals.

Aug 7, 2016. Even Olivia Newton John says this solo is totally hot. It's so hot, my pants have called for an arson investigation. It's so hot, some homeless people fried bacon on the sidewalk in front of my amplifier, and I used the grease on my guitar neck. Billy Gibbons heard this and his beard caught fire. I wear sunglasses because looking at my fingers while playing will cause blindness more severe than staring into a total eclipse.

August 12/2022 . After many requests, (or just one person that asked again and again) I finally jammed 'Maggot brain' by Parliament Funkedelic. I'm in color, the rest are in black and white. 87 minutes! For the original solo, Clinton told Eddie Hazel to play like your mother just died. I played it like live music died, which it did. I can do emotional all day long. All I have to do is look at my surroundings: zombies, drug addicts, homeless, mental cases. For those who don't get it, the thumbnail is the woman from the 'Parliament Maggot brain album cover' put over a pedestrian wearing 70's clothes. Her name was Barbara Cheesebourough and she was the model on the cover of the first issue of 'Essence' magazine in 1970.

2) I'm unemployed. I lost all busking work 2020 (it was banned) I had a very bad year and then had a serious brain aneurism in April 2021 where I almost died.

6) I get asked this 100 times a day so here's the answer: I play on the street and not in a band because all the clubs closed years ago due to disinterest, high rents, no profitability. I used to lead many bands from 2006 to 2018. That's all gone. It's also a lot more hassle, and less money, to run a band than play by myself.
7) I get asked this 100 times a day. "Why don't you try a better spot?" THIS is the best spot. How do I know? I've tried all of them. This spot is even better than Granville Island which is all tourists. Vancouver does not have many spots to play. Maybe 3-4 downtown. I have to go where traffic is heaviest or you make no money. Playing on beaches and parks or near homes, condos, apt buildings, is forbidden. This is the main transit hub of trains/seabus and also walkway for the convention center as well as heavily touristed gastown.
8) I'm playing a Parker fly guitar, limited '4 seasons' edition 'Autumn', from 2008. Only 25 exist of this model. Very light at 5 lbs, very versatile ton
