The new world's tallest building is in the planning phase in Tokoyo. Could this building be built? Will it be built? Only time will tell. The Sky Mile Tower in Tokyo will be the tallest in the world when completed. The project is astronomically large, first they’ll have to reclaim land in Tokyo Bay before they can even start building. Once completed the Tokyo Sky Mile Tower will reach 1,600 meters or 1 mile tall, to put this into perspective that is twice the size of the Burj Khalifa, which is currently the world’s tallest building. This residential skyscraper will be apart of a “Next Tokyo” which is a vision for cities like Tokyo that are located in areas of the world that experience, typhoons, earthquakes and are in danger of rising sea levels. The Sky Mile Tower and it’s surrounding community will house ½ a million residents, the Sky Mile Tower itself will hold around 55,000 occupants. Surrounding the tower are hexagonal shaped lily pads that range from 500, to 5,000 feet in size. These lily pads will function as freshwater reservoirs, public beach harbors, farming plots and will break up strong waves allowing ships to safely travel about. The farming plots will use seawater to grow algae which will be in turn used as a sustainable source of fuel. Through multiple tests, the building’s designers and engineers have come up with the design we see today which has vertical slot holes in the building. These holes allow air to travel through the building which breaks up large wind vortices. This project is still in the prototype phase and doesn’t have the green light for construction. It’s estimated if the project goes forward the Sky Mile Tower and it’s surrounding community would be completed in 2045, ya that’s a long ways away.
