This is how the room of a game design student looks like.
I'm Jonas and I document the entire journey to becoming a game developer.
Studying game design in Berlin has been a great experience that taught me a lot about making games.
Now I feel like it's time to focus on some of my own projects. It's time to leave university and learn to do my own thing. Is it really that smart to drop out now? Who knows.
I want to become a great game designer and I hope you become an even better one, whether you do that by going to game school or simply by making games in your basement at home.
In this vlog I'll show you around in my room, which will give you a pretty accurate depiction of who I am, what I want and where I'm going.
This is my path to becoming a game developer. Hop on if you want and have a nice day.

Here is how to be successful at anything! Should you work harder or smarter? The answer is both and you need to add patience to your habits as well.
This is the success cube and the formula for becoming successful is very simply: Success = Working hard * working smart * Patience
If you're lacking any one of those three factors, your chance to succeed is pretty low. If you want to win and become more successful in your life, you simply need to maximize all thee of them.
Both patience and working hard (putting in a lot of work) are pretty controllable and measurable values. Unfortunately working smart isn't really measurable at all, which makes it hard to find out if you're still on the path to success or not.
What do you think about the success cube? Did this motivate you? What's your opinion on how to become more successful? Let me know in the comments.
Keep in mind that I'm not a success / motivation expert (...yet). :D

I'm trying to teach an AI to play a simple game and beat me at it.
For that I'm using Unity 3D and machine learning.
More specifically: An evolutionary algorithm that evolves the AI over time.
The training took about 50 hours. Unfortunately it didn't quite reach super human levels. Not quite sure what went wrong...
In this video I want to tell you what I found out about machine learning so far and show you my results.

In order to succeed as an indie game developer you've got to be able to finish your games!
Long game projects are hard to complete, but I just came up with a new strategy I wanted to share with you: Always keeping the game as close to a finished product as possible by creating a releasable version every 3 months.
That means I'll try to finish Will You Snail till the end of march and after that we can reevaluate where to go from there.
Very excited about the new deadline and the new workflow.

Do these videos show up in your feed as well?
YouTubers whining about the fact that they don't enjoy their favorite online game anymore?
And that after only 1000 hours? What a surprise!
Of course the balancing, the toxic community and the latest patch are to blame and definitely NOT the fact that they've been playing this game forever!
In this video I break down the top 10 reasons why people seem to quit certain multiplayer games like Fortnite, Overwatch, PUBG, League of Legends and so on.
Some of the reasons that get mentioned in these videos are pretty legit, while others feel more like bad excuses. In my opinion you can't really expect a game to be fun forever.
Just give us the real reason and tell us you're sick of it. You played it too much, you got bored of it and you don't want to see it anymore. That's the most honest answer. That's just how it goes.
From a game design perspective it's still interesting to hear why these famous YouTubers think they quit and they make a lot of good points we as game developers can learn from. Let's dive right into it.
Curious to hear your thoughts on this subject as well. :)
