Beijing slams US allegations, calls for Washington to stop tarnishing China and fueling conflict
CIA chief William Burns has said he’s confident that China is considering supplying arms to Russia, but he admitted that there’s no evidence that actual shipments have taken place. China denies Washington’s allegations, noting that the US is the biggest arms supplier in the Ukraine conflict.
The Taliban has announced total conquest Kandahar following fierce fighting, as officials confirm that government forces have retreated from the second-largest city.
Gul Ahmad Kamin, an Afghan member of parliament, confirmed the city was no longer under the control of the Kabul government.
‘Many (government) soldiers surrendered and the rest fled,’ he told CNN, adding that some Afghan forces were still waiting to be evacuated from the city.
Government forces are reportedly still in control of Kandahar’s airport, which served as one of the largest US military bases in the country.
The Taliban later released a video, purportedly taken in Kandahar city, showing a group of young men standing on top of a military Humvee as they cheered.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Brazil’s capital on Monday, as part of an annual event known as the Free Land Encampment. Music, dancing and speeches accompanied the demonstrators, gathering to oppose government policies that threaten their traditional way of life. The march was attended by a party of indigenous leaders who were welcomed at the Congress by lawmaker Célia Xakriabá, herself a long-time activist for indigenous rights.
‘We come to demand improvements in our rights, territory, health, education. We have been fighting and demanding the authorities to do what is guaranteed in the constitution,’ said one indigenous leader. ‘We have been going through many difficulties, mainly the demarcation of the land, which today we do not have. That is why today we live in this war, our people are fighting without land and being discriminated,’ said another.
