Alan Wake is described by Remedy as "the mind of a psychological thriller" and "the body of a cinematic action game" put together. In interviews, the game's creators hold that the game does not belong squarely in the survival horror video game genre. The game is primarily set in the fictional idyllic small town of Bright Falls, Washington. The main gameplay happens in various areas of Bright Falls – such as the forest, a national park, or a farm – during the night time; these are punctuated by calmer, non-combative sequences set during the day.
The player controls the eponymous protagonist Alan Wake. In the game, a "darkness" is taking over humans, animals and objects. These enemies, dubbed the "Taken", are murderous shadows that attack Wake, wielding weapons of their own, ranging from mallets and knives to shovels and chainsaws. They vary by speed, size, and the amount of damage they can take, and some can teleport between short distances. Besides the Taken, the player must combat flocks of possessed ravens and animated objects. When enemies are close, Alan can perform a slow-motion cinematic dodge maneuver.
A major element of gameplay is the optional discovery and collection of manuscript pages from Alan Wake's latest novel—Departure. Although Wake does not remember writing this book, its storyline seems to be becoming real around him. These readable manuscript pages are scattered around the game world, out of chronological order; they often describe scenes that have yet to occur and act as warning and instructions for proceeding through upcoming challenges. Other optional collectibles include coffee thermos flasks scattered around the game world (100 in all), as well as discovering television sets which show different episodes of the fictional Night Springs series, radios airing talk and music from Bright Falls' local radio station, and textual signs around the town. The radio shows and signs provide a deeper understanding of the town's history and culture. The game's downloadable content episodes introduce other collectibles such as alarm clocks.

The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring is a 2003 real-time strategy game (RTS) developed by Liquid Entertainment and published by Sierra Entertainment, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal Games. Set in J. R. R. Tolkien’s fictional Middle-earth, it expands upon the events of the War of the Ring as told in his fantasy novel, The Lord of the Rings.
War of the Ring is unrelated to the films by Peter Jackson. The game is licensed by Tolkien Enterprises, as are other book-based (as opposed to film-based) Tolkien games such as The Fellowship of the Ring and The Hobbit (2003).
The game plays much like Warcraft III with added features, some previously used in Battle Realms. A similar layout and control system is used, and the player gets to control hero units with special abilities. Most regular units also have abilities of their own. The game also follows certain RTS conventions such as having rally points and controlling unit creation and purchase of upgrades at designated buildings.
Some features from Battle Realms that were carried over include toggleable walking and running for units and the ability to set buildings on fire. The game also emulates Battle Realms’ yin and yang system, where combat experience (or special actions) would provide a special resource that could be used to buy upgrades or units. This resource is called Yin or Yang in the previous game, depending on the faction being used, and is called Fate here. The player can use Fate Points (gained in combat) to summon heroes, purchase their special abilities, and activate special faction-specific Fate Powers that will aid him or her in gameplay (such as summoning an Ent or a Balrog). Also, some influence from Warcraft III can be seen. The Minions of Sauron must corrupt land with "war posts" before they can build upon it - similar to the Warcraft III Undead faction's "blight". When playing as the Free People, one gets to control Huorns, similar to Warcraft Night Elf "Ancient Protector" units.
The game features Places of Power, monuments that award bonuses to all units (like increased armor or attack) if controlled by the player. The player takes control of one by either finding on the map (by having a unit go near it) or wresting it from the foe (killing guards, if any, or else taking it when left unguarded).
The game utilizes a more advanced graphics engine than does Battle Realms, with variable weather and lighting effects. The engine is able to generate eye candy such as blowing grass and units sporting bloodstained weapons after they have killed enemy units.
The game records the number of enemy units killed by each of the player's units as part of the interface when each is selected.

CIRCLE MAGE DIFFICULTY
The storytelling will take place around 500 years before the Convocation and hence the world is not yet shattered into islands but remains a whole continent. The game is set in Nortander where the player has to gather influence among the human houses. A new plague is running wild within the realm but while most inhabitants seek for salvation within religion, it is up to the avatar to solve this crisis. But there might be more to it than meets the eye.
Real-Time Strategy
Base building was announced to be bound to sector-based advancing instead of the mechanics from previous Spellforce titles. This also includes resource management, e.g. you sometimes need to mine ore in one sector and transport it to other sectors to refine it into iron bars which can then be used for other things. There are three playable fractions (orcs, humans and elves). All factions' units have a typical stone-paper-scissor mechanic, e.g. bowmen are good versus infantry but weak versus cavalry.
Role-Play game
The avatar can be chosen from different presets e.g. bulky, skinny, facial features and hair styles in either female or male gender. There are many characters from previous game that can be found in SpellForce 3 such as future mages of the circle as companions. Together you can travel among the Nortander realms and explore old shaper ruins and magicial places.
There are lots of different skills and abilities as well powerful artefacts to perfectly individualize your personal character and skill combinations. In the game there are many tasks and quests to be done with promising rewards and with lots of more background information about the Bloodburn, the Wolf Guard and the Shaper empire and so many more.
Additional infos
While the previous games had a more easygoing attempt into telling their stories SpellForce 3 attempts to be more adult in terms of storytelling and background info.
The game has a multiplayer mode where players can cooperate into player versus A.I. or other players.
