Grandfather Mountain has a very special place in my heart (right next to the Foothills Trail) This makes three years in a row hiking the absolutely breathtaking trails the state park & attraction have to offer. And I'm no where near tired of it yet! With each visit their tagline rings even truer. I have no doubt I could visit 100 more times and still be amazed! Here, "Wonders Never Cease"

Hey Friends! Keeping up the tradition of an annual trip to Grandfather Mountain. This year is a little bit different from our past visits because of our four legged family members. Sorry Barrett and Nora no ladders and cables for you! We did a dog friendly day hike to Storyteller Rock overlook followed by a picnic at Julian Price Memorial Park. HEADS UP! The path to the overlook is right beside a campsite in the park. So, if you plan to take this hike yourself please be respectful of the folks who reserved the site. I've been in that situation before, and let me tell you it is not fun. For more info about the adventure opportunities at Grandfather Mountain, check out this post on my blog: seagrasstosassafras.com/post/grandfather-trip-report
On the way back to the trailhead, Jordan and I had a great conversation about worship. Which lead us to make this into a new episode of Hike + Message. If you came for the hike, I highly encourage you to stay for the message portion as well. As always, thank you for watching, and I hope you enjoy!
Music featured in this video: "Far Away" by Roads (Ian Vidovic) and "Laundry on the Wire" by Holizna

Today was my first full day on the trail, and I couldn't wait to get moving! I also couldn't wait to see the beautiful Chattooga River again. While I didn't come across any questionable characters with banjos, I did meet some very interesting thru-hikers.
Music featured in this video: “It Looks Like The Future But It Feels Like The Past” by Doctor Turtle, “Georgia’s Banjo Brigade” provided by teknoaxe.com, and “The Monk and the Cowboy” by Michael Ramir C.

There's the easy way to get to Mount Mitchell, the hard way, and then there's the Black Mountain Crest. A 12 mile trek across 10 peaks over 6,000 ft in elevation with the HIGHEST one this side of the Mississippi as the reward. You can probably guess which way I chose...
Check out the itinerary I put together from this trip! Route details, resources I used to plan the trip, campsite and water source descriptions, elevation profiles, info for local shuttle providers, and MORE all in one neatly organized PDF. (While it isn’t a substitute for doing your own research and preparation, hopefully it will take the guess work out of planning your own trip.) seagrasstosassafras.com/product-page/bmc-itinerary

I'm also sending out postcards from the trail and I'd love to send one on my next trip! Let me know where to send it at https://www.seagrasstosassafras.com/postcard (Or send me an email about it. That's okay too!)
Music featured in this video: "Crystal Echoes" by Sergey Cheremisinov, "Two Mountains at a Time (instrumental)" by Pachyderm, "" Heartless Man" by Normcore, "Return to Normal" by Waterthrush, "Be Back Soon" by David Mumford, "Wedding Music" by Arulo, "Candlelight" by Jahzzar.
Side Note: Although the trail doesn't go directly over the summit of all 10 peaks, it comes close. I did my best to label about where the trail passes by each peak or the scramble trails up to the true summits. There was also a lot of conflicting information about the exact height of some of the peaks. So once again, I did my best to label accurately.

Merry Christmas!
It's our first Christmas with the puppies! We thought it would be fun to celebrate by opening presents with them. One of the many reasons to love dogs is even though they don't actually understand all the wonder of the season their reactions to OUR excitement is genuine. So I hope you enjoy Barrett and Nora opening and playing with their Christmas presents!
Music featured in this video: "My Christmas Prayer" by Michael Ramir C.
