This is an early 1987 airing of the Mel Brooks classic, "Blazing Saddles", on Australian TV and hosted by Bill Collins. This cut includes the intros & original commercial in all their Aussie glory. Enjoy!
In 1964 Rod Serling (Night Gallery, Twilight Zone) & Joseph L. Mankiewicz (About Eve, Philadelphia Story) wrote a movie for TV (aired on ABC) paid for by the United Nations' special fund.
This movie was a fairly modern take on the Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol". The short story is that of an American Industrialist who was bitter after losing his son Marley in WWII, and became an isolationist, insisting that America should shore up its borders & nuclear arsenal, and avoid participation on the global stage.
The movie is fairly dark, with the industrialist (played by Sterling Hayden) being killed by a mob in a vision of the future, but waking up to find out that there's still time left to change his ways. Maybe.
The movie only aired once, as some isolationists & other viewers were angered by how on-the-nose preachy & didactic it was. It would not be rebroadcast for five decades.
TCM eventually began airing an edited version once annually around Christmas, but it has never had a modern release, nor is it available to purchase anywhere (that I've seen). Some 16mm prints and bootlegs, however, were circulated - and it is from these that my VHS bootleg is sourced & now available on LBRY.

Quote:
"Laura wins the female lead role in the school production of "Romeo and Juliet," and looks forward to the kissing scene with her Romeo, Daniel Wallace. Then Daniel falls ill and the understudy - who else but Urkel - takes his place. Thanks to Urkel's clumsiness and being himself, the play turns out to be a disaster."
Step By Step - Rules Of The House - 1x03
"Carol's penchant for micromanaging the household had worked well for the Fosters, but it isn't with the Lamberts now part of the family. Frank objects to his having to cash in special "tokens" that will allow him to watch 30 minutes of television, but that's nothing compared to how Al feels about Carol's rules. When Carol refuses to accept Al's criticism, she announces plans to move to Milwaukee to live with her grandmother."
Perfect Strangers - This New House - 7x03
"Larry and Jennifer move into a luxurious Victorian house, but with the rent so high they discover they can't afford to pay for food and heat."
Baby Talk - Security - 2x03
"I got nothing."
This is a small block of Australian television from the Sunshine Network, featuring "Hey Dad" and "Step by Step". A small taste of early 90's Aussie TV.
"Your Show of Shows" with Sid Caesar is where a lot of comedy's greatest writers got their start, including Mel Brooks. Even the Paley center doesn't have a *complete* collection of the series, but this recording is from the syndicated run in 1976 where some of the masters (retained my Max Liebman) were edited or recut for a 30-minute rerun of the show.
