These may not be the first useful tools on your desktop that spring to mind, but, when you need one, you will miss not having one :-) I didn't include Scrot, Maim as they are very good, but command line based...and I forgot to include Gimp which can of course screenshot..... Hopefully you will find something of interest in this list :-)
A quick demonstration of how to install FreeBSD 12 with XFCE 4.14.
It's not difficult to get a workable desktop with FreeBSD!
Commands used:
pkg update
pkg upgrade
pkg install xorg
pkg install xfce
pkg install sddm
edit /etc/rc.conf ------- dbus_enable="YES",hald_enable="YES",
sddm_enable="YES"
edit .xinitrc ------- exec startxfce4 **possibly with
--with-ck-launch
pkg install firefox gimp inkscape sylpheed vlc

Following a couple of user requests on how to install XFCE and Openbox, here is a two for one, on a fresh FreeBSD install....
Note: I didn't set up any graphics drivers for Nvidia or AMD etc, I'll assume you'll do that later...this is a stock install, and a basic config.
