Today we venture deep into the Old Souks of Tripoli. Known for their narrow alleys, people shopping and moving about, stone architecture, and shops selling anything and everything, the souk (or marketplace) is the foundation and center of culture in many middle-eastern cities. Within its walls lie many delights, and a delightful mix of organization and chaos. Watch as I wander around this complex and exciting environment, with my new friend, translator, and Tripoli native, Elian. This afternoon, we spend 3 1/2 hours inside, and still barely scratched the surface. The souks are full of surprises, and no trip to Lebanon, I would argue, could be considered complete without a visit.
