This is some gameplay of The King of Fighters '99 on the PS1. I'm a little rusty at the game, so I set the difficulty down. i also edited out the stuff between stages to try and cut down on the time of this vid, but it's still relatively long. This one has a special significance to me which is why I picked it. Sometime between the 16-bit era, and the 32 bit era, I fell out of playing 2D fighting games. With the Tekkens, the Soul Blades, the bloody Roars, and all the other PS1 3D fighters out there in the world, I lost track of 2D fighting gameplay. Furthermore, I lost my 2D fighting skills, and know-how. When I finally got My Sega Dreamcast, I got Street Fighter Alpha 3 on it, and you'd think that that would have been the game that brought me back to 2D fighters, but I just couldn't get into it. In fact I was getting slaughtered. Up till I bought Alpha 3, the last 2D fighter I had put significant time on was Super Street Fighter when I rented it on the Sega Genesis, so I was completely lost on what to do. It was an extremely frustrating experience for me, and I pretty much shelved the game after that. Not too long afterward, I came across The King of Fighters '99 for a mere $10 at my local Walmart, so I decided to give it a try. At first I wasn't that big on the game, because I was trying to play it like I would Street Fighter (spamming the specials), and I didn't know any of the characters save Terry Bogard. I had the general consensus of the mainstream that SNK fighters were just cheap SF knock-offs. Even when I had rented SNK fighters in the 16-bit era, I also looked at them as second-rate rip-offs (and to be fair some of them were), but once i finally took the time to learn KoF '99 I was actually really impressed with the play engine, and the different maneuvers you were able to perform (like the dodge maneuver that allows you to dodge through your opponent's projectile). I also realized that my first response to some of the character specials I thought were lame (Fireballs that don't go across the screen?) were actually that way on purpose. As I learned the game, I really started to like it, and after playing the game, I finally re-learned 2D fighting basics. This game brought me back to 2D fighting, and for that reason, I'll always respect this game, and SNK fighters in general. The PS1 isn't known for being strong at 2D visuals due to ram limitations. In fact the Saturn was a 2D beast while the PS1 usually got butchered ports of 2D fighters. Well, safe to say that this port is on the list of completely playable, and good 2D fighters on the PS1. Sure, it's hardly arcade perfect, and it's probably the weakest port, but even then it's still a quality fighter. #godofwar #Gameplay This is my first time through this game, and my thoughts on this game are mixed. As a game in it's own right, its a good, even great game. As a God of War game, seeing as the combat is the weakest part of the game, I see it as a bad sequel that messed up the greatest part of the vintage series. The one, single, greatest part of every other God of War game was having one of the most dynamic, and fun combat systems ever implemented in any game series ever, and they took it, and made most of the combat into a tedious, frustrating affair where they downgraded Kratos' badassery just to make it fit into the so-called "AAA" big open world gameplay design. For a GoW game, having a bad fighting system is a cardinal sin. Similar systems may work great in other open-world games not named God of War, but having the GoW name gives it a heritage to live up to. I know you can't criticize anything nowadays without everyone jumping down your throat, but I don't care. I am really enjoying the gameplay and the open-world design, but as a God of War fan, I have to mentally disconnect this game from the previous games in the series to fully enjoy it for what it offers, as opposed to what it lacks when compared to the previous games in the series. Yes, the God of War series needed a change after Ascension. The formula was getting stale, and this is a good change in direction for the series.However, the one thing that didn't need to be changed/downgraded was the combat. For any other open-world style game, the combat system in this game would be great, but for a God of War game, it is sub-par, tedious, and frustrating. Earlier in the game, I was fretting combat against groups of enemies, whereas in the original God of War series, I would gladly run towards crowds of enemies. The rest of the game is good, but a good story doesn't make up for the poor combat mechanics in the game. I've always been a gameplay-first kind of gamer, and they broke the best part of God of War. The rest of the game is well designed, I'm just disappointed with the downgrade in combat. This should have been the one thing they didn't mess up, and they did. My quick take: As a gamer, I am really enjoying this game, there's a lot of good exploration, and everything else but the combat is very well designed, and a big step forward for the series. This footage went over the 10 minute limit, so i had to split this scene into two vids. This is Part 2. This is Vid Number 40 of an entire Normal Difficulty playthrough of the original Killzone on the PS2. I don't normally do playthroughs, and this isn't the most skillful playing, but I know there is a lot of interest in this game now that Killzone 2 is out, so I though I'd do a full playthrough showing all the levels and the story cut scenes, so let me give you a SPOILER WARNING for those who haven't played the game yet. To be honest, I think this game was unfairly panned by the gaming media. I really enjoyed it, but I will admit to it's flaws. First of all, it's glitchy. It's filled with graphical glitches (which you're likely to see in these vids), and occasionally the game will even glitch out and stop progression.The biggest complaint is with the controls. The default analog control setting it terrible. Luckily, the game's controls are 100% customizable, so you can fix, or mostly fix the aiming. I've never gotten it to feel perfect to my tastes, but I've gotten it close enough to where I can adjust to the aiming. Also, the Hellghast voices are extremely annoying at first, but you get used to them, and may even start to like them after a while. To be honest, I'd have to disagree with the belief that the developer just tried to push more than the PS2 to handle in this game. I've seen games with nearly as good, or, arguably, better graphics run a lot smoother on the system. In reality it's likely that the game was rushed in order to beat Halo 2 to the market. It feels like it released too early, and it just lacks that final layer of polish. I hear they are bringing an HD version of this game to the PS3 with Killzone 3.
