1. Ukraine Tensions Continue
Tensions between Russia and Ukraine remain high this week, as troops remain in position on both sides of the border and pro-russian separatist areas. Russia has reportedly massed over 40,000 troops on the crimean peninsula, and another 40,000 along its western border with Ukraine, though its intentions still remain somewhat unclear.
2. Russia Responds to US Sanctions
Russia expelled 10 US diplomats on friday in response to the latest round of sanctions from the state on thursday, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying that Russia would respond in a tit-for-tat manner to any new sanctions.
3. Sudan PM Invites Egypt & Ethiopia for Nile Summit
Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok has invited his Egyptian and Ethiopian counterparts to a closed-door summit this week, for discussions over Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam project.
4. UAE’s DP World Seeks Djibouti Port Reparations
The UAE’s DP World, one of the world’s largest port operators, is seeking damages totaling 210 million us dollars from Djibouti this week, as part of its ongoing battle with the county’s government over port concession rights.
